Mark Bulled Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 A question for successful YB darkness flyers. When do you consider is the best time to pair to breed a successful darkness team?
Guest Paulo Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 I paired up stock birds on new years day and racers on blackpool weekend 20th jan and the birds were put on darkness on 1st april and taken off the longest day (bourges weekend for WDA)
Tony C Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 I pair all my w/h team & stock the week after Blackpool, float the eggs from stock under the w/h team and let them go down again. Both lots of y/birds are put on the darkness. If its the best time I dont know but it works for me.
Mark Bulled Posted September 18, 2008 Author Report Posted September 18, 2008 The two options were what I both considered. Pair the Stock at Christmas Time when I have a few days off or pair after Blackpool and undersit eggs to my racers. Just wondered if the extra month of age made much difference? Especially regarding sexual maturity?
walkergeoffrey@ymail.com Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 i first started darkness in 1984
Guest spin cycle Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 i first started darkness in 1984 they should be through the moult by now
Pego Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 Pair up after we come home from Blackpool. Put youngsters on darkness 1st April for 10 weeks.
sapper756 Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 I also pair up on return from Blackpool, however I put the youngsters on darkness when I wean them.
Simeon Turner Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 We pair everything up the monday after the Blackpool Show. The youngsters are put on the darkness when the clocks go forward, they are taken off aobut 1st June, which is about 9 weeks or so I think. Never have problems with the moult either.
wayne77 Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 After the longest day do you use lights to keep the hours of light consistent? do you redarken birdd about 3 weeks before a big chossen race? All interesting stuff this. Never tried darkness as at away from home 8:15 to 5:45 (at work now ) but think there is way around it with some auto opening or lighting system. Any ideas on this would be good as well
Ronnie Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Would be interesting to see results as well to see what seems to be working better for some. I weaned my youngsters onto the darkness i took them off the longest day of the year and i took a club position every race i sent bar one when i had 4 on the shed roof and wouldnt come in so i threw a sulk on and didnt clock them ,two fed cards a breeer buyer position and 7th middlewich two bird open as well with the young birds.(i missed two weeks for holiday) i paired up between christmas and new year and all my pairs bar two where youngsters of the darkness system.I also took two rounds from them and noticed the second round didnt do as well as the first.
kirky Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 I pair all my w/h team & stock the week after Blackpool, float the eggs from stock under the w/h team and let them go down again.
