p charlton Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 what time of the year do members put there birds on the dark
Guest chrisss Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 if i was going to breed/race this year [doubtful now] i would go from the 21st march until 21st june i was told that was the time to do it from,it seems to work
kirky Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 as soon as thay are weaned, if bred early thay will throw first flight if not on dark till later.
RoryTheRed Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 1st March until 2nd week of June. Lights on from August until last race.
Simeon Turner Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Ours go on the darkness on the Sunday the clocks go forward in March, so this year it will be the 28th I think. They come of the darkness the first Saturday in June, so that will be 6th this year, they have about 10 - 11 weeks on the darkness.
stoolpigeon Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 put on the darkness straight from the nest
PIGEON_MAN Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 put on the darkness straight from the nest Do exactly the same, take them off 4 weeks before the first race.
andrew gooch Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 put them on straight away get them into a routine it causes less stress take them off june the 9 this way u can add your 2 round and have them moulted out 2 dont worry about them holding your first round back because thay will be much slower off the mark than summer breads but remember plenty of food at night before lock up grow them big and stong. i have results second to none this way it realy works no strees
thunderboult Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 i don't put mine on the dark but i've been told they don't need to go on the dark until daylight gets longer than the night.
cowman Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 its hard for my loft to put them on the dark so i go for 16hrs of light a day untill last race then back to natural daylight hours .
andrew gooch Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 i don't put mine on the dark but i've been told they don't need to go on the dark until daylight gets longer than the night. you should try some its just like flying old birds (i.e)widowed/paird/or natural as nom young
Guest j.bamling Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I used to put them straight onto the dark from weaning till the longest day but i now think that is too long to have them on we are going to put them on the last week in march-1st week in April and i will be taking them off early june I think when they are left on from weaning this could be why some dont come well the following year as yearlings
frank-123 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 last year i started the 12th of april until the 21st of june all went through the moult ok and raced ok
