adamant Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 QUESTION: mixing young birds with younger birds -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i started out with 7 young birds back in April that are now being released about 3 miles out as of last week. last weekend i received 13 more younger birds that are sharing the loft with the birds i got back in April. it is hard to basket up the 7 birds that i have been training so i can toss them. what would u do ?
slim45 Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 put plastic stock rings on either the 7 trainers or the 13 new ones so you can identify them quickly when basketing.
grizzal Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 without putting them in there own section,u will have no choice but to just catch them.

Guest Owen Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 The rings will help. My own method is to fix a ctrate to thr outside of the loft and run the birds into it by scattering a bit of seed in it. I leave the crate in place and allow the birds to run in and out as they wish. If I need to treat them or sort them out I do it from the crate. This method serves two purposes. It avoids grabbing birds in the loft and scaring the guts out of them, and you are not stirring up dust to slowly kill yourself. The best advange is the fact that your birds are properly basket trained and will be confident to eat and drink. A big advantage when they race because most babies are scared to death and it takes them a long time to drink in the race baskets. And I can basket 50 birds in just a couple of minutes. Not bad eh!
