Guest bakes Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Lol.. your keen mate.. remember its a long season.. you dont want the doos peaking to early.. as keen as you can get mate if weather nice tomorrow i send them again morning and night then leaving them to a fortnight before the first race before they go back in basket for some more toss before our first race on april 10th bath only sending half my yearlings as bath the following week as well so they all will have had bath all being well then go from there as the rest of the season unfold. all the best
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 think i would feel a bit peeky oot in that cold esast wind neva mind the doo,s early to train early to bed when you get to mid season yer pigeons near dead ;D ;D ;D ;D Agree with that Rab.. if its a cold wind i dont even bother letting them out at this time of year, never mind training them.. The aim is to build doos up, so if they hit a hard day when the racing comes they'll fly their wee heart out. Doos pushed too hard too early and generally posted missing when this happens..JMO
billt Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 My yearlings are mainly untrained late breds. Wouldn't dream of training just now, anything but warm, and they'd become hawk fodder, aren't we in the main sparrowhawk / peregrine breeding seasons during the first 4 months of year? The BOP'S will be breeding from April to June , more mouths to feed :-/

Guest IB Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 The BOP'S will be breeding from April to June , more mouths to feed :-/ This is an earlier post of mine dated 11th April 2009. This is what I had in the back of my mind in the post you've just replied to:- There was an interesting article in this week's BHW, on sparrowhawks & pergerines, and although I don't agree with everything in that article, especially the figures on losses, a couple of bits on self-help did make sense. And these were changing what we did during their breeding seasons; basically no breeding YBs before March / April (avoid s/hawk) and no racing before end of May (avoid peregrine). Although the article was written by conservation groups they were very candid in their advice if followed would mean we would stop feeding these things, so there would be fewer of them around.
