kirky Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 For a short race what time would you prefer to feed your pigeons and for a long distance race 9am for a short race, on a long distance it wont matter as thay will be fed in the baskets.
Guest pigeonboyno1 Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 so for a short race do you keep the food in the loft or do u remove it after 15 mins or something
jimmy white Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 for a short race,, or rather not many hours on the wing ,, a lighter diet [not lighter fuel ;D] a heavier mix for a distance race , longer hours on the wing ,in my opinion
jimmy white Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 so for a short race do you keep the food in the loft or do u remove it after 15 mins or something i would try and feed on a friday at the time of lib on the sat,,,,, if at all poss,, full feed then take away any thats left

jimmy white Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 so for a shorter race don't put very much food in the loft no would never send a hungry pigeon , a light "mixture " with some maize , but a full feed if at all poss at time of lib on the friday [a lot will depend on what system you use ] and to what distance you intend trying

Wiley Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 to be honest if you have fed right for the sort distance your birds shouldnt eat no matter what you put infront of them,
Guest spin cycle Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 i hopper feed...so for short races i 'freshen' the hoppers first thing and then take the food out friday lunchtime...ready for friday night basketing. when its a morning basketing i 'refresh' the previous teatime and remove the hoppers last thing that night...so far so good. i often take the birds to the transporter and have seen birds bringing up expensive mixes in the crates...to me thats no good.
jimmy white Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 is a hungry pigeon not trap better on a saturday not neccessary
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 is a hungry pigeon not trap better on a saturday A bird that is desperate to get back on its nest or back to its mate will trap as good as anything whether hungry or not
Tony C Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Pigeons eat then they drink.......... during hot spells I'll not give them a full feed the day before basking knowing they'll eat well basketing morning and take on board a decent amount of fluids.
