blackswan Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 might be a cock and not a hen try it with another hen and see how you get on
just ask me Posted January 13, 2009 Author Report Posted January 13, 2009 no cock grand ohh and i lock them in there boxes too have left these out tonight hopefully this might work
Guest Owen Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 I usually deal with this in one of three ways. 1) isololate the bird for a while so that she has no contact with other birds. Then turn her in with a group of cocks and watch her reaction so that you can work out if you tried her with a poor cock (one she doesn't fancy) or if she is in fact a hen. 2) using a standard widowhood box part her from the cock with the aid of a spare partition, to avoid him scalping her, and let him pair to her through the bars. Allow them together under supervision. This can take time and if you fail you have wasted a lot of time. 3) leave her until later. n.b. feed with heating seed while all this is going on. A word of warning, if you manage to pair this bird with a cock she does not really fancy, the cock will probably not fly very well on widowhood. They only fly really well to love matches. I have no idea if this applies to natural because I know nothing about flying hens or natural.
kirky Posted January 13, 2009 Report Posted January 13, 2009 i would put them in a section on there own just leave a bowl in a corner on the floor, your yb section would do.
sammy Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 maybe she dont like the colour of the cock ,had hen once who would only pair up to a RED COCK
just ask me Posted January 14, 2009 Author Report Posted January 14, 2009 alls well today finally got her to pair about time i paid a whack of money for her pairing her to my best racing cock for the last 3 year he got busted by a falcon last year done breast and wing damage lucky to get him home really so much for them only taking the slow ones what a load of crap hes in stock loft now
Blue Chequer Pied Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 i would put them in a section on there own just leave a bowl in a corner on the floor, your yb section would do. Good advice if you have a spare section usually does the trick. Paul.
just ask me Posted January 14, 2009 Author Report Posted January 14, 2009 well i locked the rest up in there boxes let there box open and they could go out on the floor was thinking if she saw the rest paring up it might drive her on it seemed to have worked
