Where is everyone expected to start racing? We start on 15th April other feds round here start on 8th April. My argument with them is, that there will most prob be no channel racing, that meansd there are somehitn glike 15weeks between 15th april and last week in july, 15 land races!!!why dont they start a bit later? 1st week in may? maybe its to much common sense!its like banging your head against a brick wall.

GEZ,THINK WHAT MOST FEDS WILL DO THAT STILL GO SOUTH WILL HAVE A INLAND RACE WHERE THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A CHANNELL RACE SO AS TO KEEP THE SAME AMMOUNT OF RACES.OUR FED IS SUPPOSED TO START ON APRIL 15th BUT IS NOT DECIDING WHICH WAY TO FLY UNTIL NEXT WEEK.

Hello Gez,

Do you taffy`s fly your Lerwick national anymore? i can`t remember seeing any results since Mr and Mrs Mears won it ,only bird in race time 600miles+about 4-years ago.

What`s the split in wales between the Northroad-eastroad-and southroad?1/3 even?

Agree with you Gez. I havent even bothered looking when the racing starts as mine will start when they are ready, i.e. all babies have been weaned away and they have sat a second round for 7 days. Then ill try to get them race fit and send them whether it means their first race is from 60 or 150miles. To try and get them into form for our national races.

THE WAY THE WEATHER IS IN THE NORTH EAST,I WOULD LOVE RACING TO BE PUT BACK 2 WEEKS FROM NOW ON AS THE FIRST COUPLE OF RACES UP HERE OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS HAVE BEEN FREEZING COLD DAYS WITH HEAD WINDS AND POOR RETURNS.WHY??? BECAUSE THE BIRDS ARENT UP TO IT AT THIS TIME OF YEAR.YEARLING COCKS CAN HAVE THEIR SEASON ENDED THROUGH BEING SENT STRAIGHT IN TO THE DEEP END AND ASKED TO DO A JOB THAT THE MAJORITY OF THEM  ARENT YET CAPABLE OF.

Lincolnshire Fed have not published the alternative race programme yet but we are supposed to be starting on the 15 April way to early in my opinion :)

I feel pigeonjock has made a very good point regarding yearlings. With the threat of our race programs getting disrupted I fear some fanciers will race them at every opportunity just to get some mileage under their belts. I'm going to wrap mine in cotton wool, y/b racing could end up a no go this year, lose your yearlings this year and in 2007 your old bird team could end up having no 2 yearolds in and the possibly of unraced yearlings. Better be safe than sorry.

I HAVE TO DISAGREEROSE,YOU CAN TRAIN PIGEONS ON FINE DAYS THROUGH THE WINTER (THE DAYS SOMETIMES THROUGH THE WINTER ARE NOW LIKE SUMMER DAYS)ONLY FOR RACING TO COME ROUND AND WE FIND OURSELVES WITH TRAINED BIRDS GOING TO RACES THAT ARE AS COLD AS OLD WINTER DAYS.IVE LIVED IN DOVER BEFORE ROSE AND THE DIFFERENCE IN TEPERATURES TO THAT OF THE N/EAST IS VAST.YOUR WEATHER IS MILES DIFFERENT TO WHAT WE EXPERIENCE UP HERE,SO THE PIGEONS CAN BE WELL TRAINED AND STILL TAKE ALL DAY TO COME HGOME FROM AN 85 MILE RACE IN APRIL.I FOR ONE WILL BE TREATING MY YEARLINGS WITH KID GLOVES UNTIL THE SUN IS ON THEIR BACKS AND THEN THEY WILL HAVE TO GOT TO WAR.

Felt Spring has been a bit colder up here last two years:-

2005 optional race April 16th ... Lockerbie, snow on ground.

2004 April 23rd? ... Kelso, hard frost.

Pretty pleased 2006 programme doesn't start until April 29th.

well if it too cold & dont feel yearlings are up for it then best thing is to not send em

yearling won our first race last year our first race is the 15th april with an open race the week before

WE START UP HERE WITH 2 OPEN RACES ON LAST 2 SAT IN MARCH.NEVER EVER SENT AS I HAVE NEVER HAD BIRDS READY AT THAT TIME OF YEAR.WHAT YOU SAY IS TRUE ROSE,DISTANCE FLIERS IN YOUR AREA DONT HAVE TO HAVE THEIR BIRDS READY FOR A WHILE YET,BUT UP HERE COMPETITION IS THAT FIERCE THAT IF YOU AREN'T READY FOR THE EARLY RACES YOU TEND TO GET LEFT IN THE WAKE.MY OWN CLUB SENDS 500+BIRDS PER WEEK AND THE RESULT IS USUALLY OVER IN SECONDS EVEN AT 300 MLS.LAST YEAR I GOT TWO BIRDS TOGETHER ONE TRAPPED THE OTHER WAS TIMED 17 SECONDS LATER AFTER DOING A VICTORY ROLL.RESULT 1ST AND 7TH CLUB,1ST AND 17TH FED.THAT WAS FROM 206 MILE ON A HARD DAY.THE FED RESULT(TOP 20)WAS OVER IN 23 SECONDS,OUR CLUB RESULT(TOP 4)WAS OVER IN 5 SECONDS,AND I FLY 4 MILES TO THE EAST OF THE CLUB SO IT CANT BE SAID THE BIRDS WERE ALL INTO 1 AREA.I'D STILL PREFER TO SEE US STARTING IN LATE APRIL AND GIVING THE WEATHER EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO BE A LITTLE WARMER THAN IT HAS BEEN THESE LAST FEW YEARS IN EARLY APRIL.

warwickshire fed due 3rd week in april but I never send hens or yearlings till may if you want 600 mls why send em early mine will always wait don' worry about the first couple of races if you want the distance " Rose seems to say all the right things for my point of view"

ITS ALL VERY WELL SAYING WHAT YOU ARE SAYING ABOUT NOT GETTING YOUR BIRDS OUT UNTIL LATER IN THE SEASON BUT UP HERE WE ONLY FLY IN ONE CONCERN AND THERE ARE NO SPECIALIST CLUBS TO THE EXTENT OF WHAT YOU GET FURTHER SOUTH,I:E PEOPLE IN YOUR AREAS CAN FLY IN THE NFC OR THE CSCFC OR TWO BIRD SPECIALIST CLUBS ETC ETC.MY OWN LOFT IS TOO FAR WEST TO GET IN ANY CLUBS IN THE UNC AND TOO FAR EAST TO GET IN ANY CLUBS IN THE WDA SO WE HAVE TO MAKE DO WITH THE PLACE WE FLY IN AND THE RACE PROGRAMME WE FLY WHICH DETERMINES WHEN YOU MORE OR LESS HAVE TO HAVE YOUR BIRDS READY.IF YOU MISS A FEW RACES THROUGH NOT SENDING THEN YOU CAN HAVE INEXPERIENCED YEARLINGS JUMPING STRAIGHT INTO 206 MILES AND THATS NOT THE IDEAL SITUATION,AS THERE ARE NO OTHER CLUBS TO SEND IN THAT WOULD BE SENDING TO A SHORTER RACEPOINT TO GET A SHORTER RACE AND A LITTLE MORE EXPERIENCE UNDER THEIR BELT BEFORE ASKING THEM TO DO A MANS JOB AT THE COAST 300 MILES.
