I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT MY LOFT IS OVER CROWDED I HAVE QUITE A LARGE BACK GARDEN SET UP 18 NO 8FT SECTIONS WITH TILED ROOFS PLUS A 28FT BY 6FT AVAIRY I HAVE 200 PIGEONS IS THIS TOO MANY .

I think your aviary alone is bigger than most average fancier's lofts.  :)  If I read your post correctly, your loft has 18 x 8 foot sections? Bigger than the average fancier's home. ;D

Don't see a problem just now, but at the end of one breeding season you could have potentially 600 pigeons. While I don't think you are overcrowded now, soon come to the point when you will / could be.

Far too many unfortunately, we always work on 1 square foor per bird, according to the dimensions of your loft this would equate to 146 birds at the most.

1 sq foot per bird is close, but with an aivairy that big you could hold more and just have them perched in the loft on the wall perches 7 x17 and 2 walls at 7x7 would allow for 217 birds I wouldn't put more than 200 in

Perhaps it would help if you put the full dimensions of your lofts i.e.    width x depth of each section and number of sections. The way it reads is that you have 18 in number sections of 8ft which is a mighty large loft.

MY LOFT IS A U SHAPE LOFT GOES UP 2 SIDES AND ACROSS BACK OF GARDEN , THERE ARE 15 SECTION 8FT * 6FT 6FT HIGH WITH A WIRE CEILING AND TILED ROOF  AND THE YOUNG BIRD SECTIONS THERE ARE 3 WHICH ARE 8FT WIDE 12FT DEEP 6FT HIGH WITH ALSO WIRED CEILING AND TILED ROOF HAVE 200 BIRDS WHICH 80 ARE STOCK BIRDS AND THERE 4 SECTIONS ARE JOINED TO AVAIRY ,THERE IS NO SMELL OF PIGEONS SO HOW CAN IT BE OVERCROWED

i misread your post as well dries, but would say i cubic foot is not enough for each bird, i would say at least a half cubic metre per bird, with plenty ventilation, you can count this out yourself, via, the size of your lofts

im   not   to good   space   and    areas, but  ido know    that    a  8 feet  x  6 feetsection   looks    overcrowed    with   more    than   24  birds    in  it    its   like planting    flowers    in  a new    bed     you   just      know   when   it   looks   right

I base it on 27 sq ft per bird my new loft has 4 breeding pens ( singles ) and 2 racing sections each racing section is 6 x 7 x 7 which is 294 sq ft x2 which is 588 sq ft divided by 27 that = 21.78 or 22 birds there is also going to be a 10 x 20 x 8 flypen the more space and fewer birds the better off you are less disease and more contentment

Personaly I think 200 pigeons is far to many, how do you manage, is their more than yourself looking after them. It must be hard trying tospot a bird going off colour or not quite right.

To me I guess it's more a case of do you have the time to look after them well eneough. Not just a case of are they healthy. Would you spot a potential 500 mile winner, or do you have the money to be able to send 'em all
