Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Oops, better put 'To Her Majesty The Queen'.
johnny11 Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 I would like to remain optimistic but if one case hits the shoreline then DEFRA will say No. I feel we will have to respect this decision or we will never be able to convert the views of the narrow minded public. we are finding it hard enough now, we will have to be seen to be doing the right things, we dont need the pigeons being blamed for this. square_peg Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 -would it not be better if DEFRA just came out and said if no bird flu in GB then we can race inland :-/ if bird flu in GB then no racing :'( if bird flu stays in europe then no channel racing > if bird flu leaves europe then we go channel racung
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Apperently this bird flu will never just go away, and will be around for years!!!
jimmy white Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 facts are at the moment, there are no confirmed cases in the uk, and up to now inland racing is possible, [ that may change, but not as yet]
mark Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 they say lock your birds up inside i cant see how that can stop as air gets in everywhere or am i missing something,
Guest shadow Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 they say lock your birds up inside i cant see how that can stop as air gets in everywhere or am i missing something,. Your birds would have to come in contact with infected birds.
jimmy white Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 what about the hawks ,comming in contact with infected birds
square_peg Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 there has allready been a case of flu in a hawk france or germany i think
square_peg Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 ME THINKS WE GIVE THEM ALL A COUGH SWEETIE AND THEY ALL WILL 'FLU' AWAY WISHFULL THINKING ;D
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 . Your birds would have to come in contact with infected birds. Spot on Shadow - the virus isn't airborne, needs contact bird / bird via contaminated water / ground.. thats why keeping the birds indoors is an effective preventative measure ... Another misconception coming out of the thread is avian flu in UK and UK shuts down .. wrong. Read the contingency plan. Only restrictions on movement of birds is in a 10km protection / surveillence zone around the outbreak.
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 there has allready been a case of flu in a hawk france or germany i think Goshawk died of avian flu in Germany.
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Bruno I aint no faint heart. I've just "been around the block". I know how the world DOES work, and how it SHOULD You've even got Ken Livingstone bleating on about pigeons and Bird Flu now! Ken Livingston is well known for his attempt to get rid of the pigeons in Trafalgar Square and the public uproar he caused meant that it was and is a no-no. Can't comment on his latest onslaught on street pigeons because he doesn't get daylight up here, but suspect the public's reaction will be much the same. It can't have gone unnoticed that the report into the effects of the F&M outbreak 5 years ago has been getting airtime all this week and government is well aware that people will not stand for mass slaughter now .. even of Ken's 'flying-rats'. The Animal Health & Welfare Bill was to be passed by Scottish Parliament today and already they're on the street protesting at the additional disease control slaughter powers in this Act.
snowy Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 voted y/birds only, as this will be our first year
mealybar Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 With France and Spain not looking good this year, would it be progressive for one of the big clubs to offer to organise an International race from Thurso or Lerwick; see how the Belgians, Dutch and Germans fair with the sea crossing and real terain No honestly I think its an alternative that we should try (defra) and offer our continental freinds
tartanboy Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 well said Bruno im with you and i voted to race inland and oversea, and as for jagging will this apply to cats which i think is absolutly hillarious, they have it then they dont have it.if it were your birds would they get a second chance?what is the testing rules are they the same for birds as they are for cats?
westburylofts Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 Have been told that the Dutch have been told they can start letting there birds out again towards the middle/end of this month. sounds like the firs bit of good news hope there is more to come RAY
