Guest jason Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 i've voted as i'm hoping........... inland racing.
westy Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 i am only racing young birds this year due to i am new to the sport.
square_peg Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 head tells me we should be going over the water but, my heart says take any kind of racing we get and then make the most of a bad job
schouwman71 Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Think we should be ok for the land, but water i dont think we will get there, but theres hopes that defra will let us go into belguim, but with the avian flu only 500mls away you just dont know whats around the corner, just hope it dusnt pop its ugly head up over here ot we might not get to fly our birds out never mind race them.
Diamond dave Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 No racing - I think a ban is inevitable despite whats in our hearts - and I think that it will be in place until a suitable vaccination programme can be implemented.
perk Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 i hav,nt voted because i think at this time we might as well toss a coin. still carrying on as normal with limited breeding and preperation for racing
sapper756 Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 HAVE TO ADMIT, THIS CURRENT UNCERTAINTY, TAKES A BIT OF THE ENJOYMENT OUT OF THE USUAL EXCITING BREEDING SEASON. NOT KNOWING IF THE YOUNGSTERS WILL EXPIERIENCE LIBERATION FROM THE LOFT, BEFORE THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET TO KNOW THIER LOFT LOCATION, THUS LEADING TO FLYAWAYS.
slatey Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 I voted no racing because its just a matter of time i think. Hope im wrong though
aarden Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 i voted no racing. i think its only a matter of time before we wake up one day soon and the headlines will be its here in britain.
Diamond dave Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Does anybody know how long it would take to get a vaccination programme up and running - Im sure Defra could have something in place by young bird racing.
square_peg Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 PMV VACCINATION IS BAD ENOUGH H5N1 JABS WE ARE GOING TO TURN THE DOO'S INTO PIN CUSHIONS IT'S TO EARLY TO EVEN THINK ABOUT JAGGING FOR THIS :'(
Guest shadow Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 I voted no racing, the day will come when it will reach our shores.
Guest jason Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 yes your right shadow, even though i voted for inland racing I am thinking we're all clutching at straws.
Diamond dave Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 Square Peg. I agree mate but when it comes to this country I dont think it will be eradicated for a long time without a vaccination programme - I'm only saying that I think this is the only way racing will be re-instated for this year and who knows, even next!!!!
Guest Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 What a bunch of fainthearts!!! ;D Provided the authorities do their stuff and keep avian flu out of their domestic poultry industry, I think we've sod-all to be worried about. Difference between Asia & Western Europe is that only the wild bird population is affected here, and the contingency plans admit that there's little can be done about that ... sounds like a natural burn-out case to me. I think you can bet on young bird racing - a safe bet, its months away in the non-danger zone; if avian flu has 'a season' its reckoned to be August - April. Maybe misunderstanding on vaccination? Used only in place of slaughter in first 3km ring round an outbreak. France do wan't it extended to become normal vaccination. Understandable given size of their poultry industry. What we're really missing just now is something like David Swayne's 'latest' work posted on Avian Flu thread coupled with what FCI had to say on special housing & racing arrangement? Basically saying, look guys, we know H5N1 can infect pigeons, but because of the way we look after them and race them the chances are remote AND banning them in a zone free from Avian flu won't make any difference to the spread of Avian flu either in the world, or to poultry.
THE FIFER Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 I THINK WE WILL GET SOME SORT OF RACING, WHICH WOULD BE BETTER THAN NOTHING, BUT IF IT COMES TO IT WHERE BIRDS ARE TO BE CONFINED TO THE LOFT THEN 06 YOUNGSTERS ARE A NO GO, JUST IMAGINE THEM GETTING OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME WHEN THEY ARE YEARLINGS, "WHOOPS THEY ARE GONE"
frank-123 Posted February 22, 2006 Report Posted February 22, 2006 i think if we get over the wild birds migration period without any outbreaks in the uk iam sure we will be racing maybe a later start to the season on the other hand if theres an outbreak no racing iam only racing ybs this year so i have not paired yet j
westburylofts Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 I HAVE VOTED YES INLAND ONLY THINK WE WILL GET RACING OF SOME SORT. AS FOR VACCINATION SURE I READ THAT IT WOULD NOT DO ANY GOOD ON PIGEONS, ALSO TESTS SHOW PIGEONS DO NOT SUFFER FROM IT ANYWAY. BUT I THINK IT IS A CASE OF WAIT AND SEE, ONE THING I HAVE NOTICED IS HEARING MORE PEOPLE SAYING THAT THE PRESS HAVE BLOWN IT ALL OUT OF PROPORTION, AND THIS WAS FROM NON FANCIERS WHO NEW NOWT ABOUT PIGEONS. RAY
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 The media are blowing it out of all proportion here too Ray, especially The History Channel, who did a 2 hour documentary on a scenario of would would happen if Bird Fle hit the states. It was beyond belief, dead bodies all over the place, cities shut down, enough to frighten the life out of everybody If I had my way I would have hung the producer by his dangly bits <VBG>
Mike Lycett Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Bruno I aint no faint heart. I've just "been around the block". I know how the world DOES work, and how it SHOULD You've even got Ken Livingstone bleating on about pigeons and Bird Flu now!
Guest jason Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Yeah but we all know pigeons don't mix with politics, don't we ???? every none-fancier i have ever spoken to about pigeons says they're flying rats.
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Surely the Queen, who is a pigeon fancier herself should have a nice bit of pull for us!!!
Guest Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Yep, think I might, do you know her address, or do I just put, 'To The Queen' LOL.
