David Swain Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 Spare a thought please for the poor birds which didn't have the benefit of a blow home. Ours were asked to pull away from the drag and go in the opposite direction straight into the strong wind. Consequently after more than three hours we're still waiting for our first arrival and we only fly 48 miles !!! I guess the majority of them are now flying around Cambridgeshire somewhere. Times like this you really wonder why you bother.
richard Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 Derek Humans got a good one in the old hens race though Vel 1811 flying 30 miles, provisional 12th Open Cheers Richard
Pompey Mick Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 THIS RACE HAS JUST EMPHASISED WHAT A POOR CHOICE CHALE WAS. THE WIND WAS GOING TO BE THE ONLY WINNER. THE 180 DEGREE SPLIT OF THE RACE CONVOY WAS ALWAYS GOING TO MEAN THAT SOME WOULD GET IT EASY AND SOME WOULD GET IT HARD. AT LEAST WITH SENNEN COVE THE CONVOY ONLY HAD A 45 DEGREE SPLIT WHICH GAVE MORE MEMBERS A CHANCE TO COME INTO THE EQUATION. JUDGING BY THE ENTRIES SECTION D THOUGHT LESS OF CHALE THAN SENNEN COVE AS WITH ALL THE SOUTH COAST SECTIONS, THIS WAS PURELY AN ECONOMIC DECISION AND NO THOUGHT WAS GIVEN TO THE QUALITY OF THE RACE,JUST THE NUMBERS.
David Swain Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 Agree entirely with Pompey Mick on the bizarre choice of racepoint. It was hardly surprising that Section E dominated the race given the wind direction and that is something you can do nothing about. Who knows in a strong westerly it may well have been the same if the race had been held from Sennen Cove - but at least the South and West fanciers would have felt they stood a better chance of having a reasonable race while giving the YBs a better education than teaching them to fly halfway to London and back. Out of interest we sent ten and eventually had five back, albeit slowly, on the day which was better than it might have been. Still missing are several that were in the CSCFC result from Ramsgate but hopefully they will have picked up enough experience by now to get back on track today.
westburylofts Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 Well all i can say it has not taken long for people to start saying that the wind played a major factor in the result of the National this weekend. Well thats the case for every race be it club, fed, classic, national. No dought the write up's will read " National Ruined By Weather " LETS ALL GET TOGETHER AND SAY WELL DONE TO THE WINNERS AND ALL THAT TOOK PART WELL DONE FROM WESTBURY LOFTS
Pompey Mick Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 Ray, I did not wish to detract from the winners in this race, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Open winner and all the Section winners ,my own club member won Sec B and I was the first to congratulate him. I was just making the point that the race from Chale, being where it is, was going to be more influenced by the wind than a normal National lib site where there is a more common line-of-flight, and in my opinion Sennen Cove would have provided this.
westburylofts Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 Sorry i was not having a go at any one person or persons. As i said lets congratulate all the winners open and section. But i would say that if they had been over the pond then bear in mind that the wind plays a big part in the out come of the race and also the race point. the national flying club has moved the race points more westerly every year like the yb national if it had been from over the channel this year would have been st marlo, Why do they not spread the race points around differant parts of france to give every area in the National Flying Club a chance of winning. I cannot see how the current lines of flights are fare to all. And i also feel the sections need to be looked into as some do not appear to be fare, and section E is one of them. I know there are a few trying to get this changed and they are doing a great job. These are my own thoughts and i stick by them. i no longer belong to the NFC. RAY
pender Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 It is lot of tosh this they did best they could under the current climate of things, well sorry that is not good enough wen it is not fair to a fairly large sec of your members then it should be put of for the year. To be honest how this commitee have got away with there actions this year is behond beleive, no wonder the other clasic clubs are gaining in membership.
