I have a bad neighbour

Maybe worth remembering that anyone letting their birds sit about others roofs is seen as the bad neighbour, not the other way about.

Had a nieghbour, who has since left the area, who's small shack of a brick shed sagged bad. It held water. I politely mention it, that he need a new roof, was in August / September like. Well he was late twenties ans single, and I thought lazy git! 'No prob' sez he to me, 'Ihave it hand, as a mate was going to sort any time now'!

Well that never happened, and as I had some great roofing - the best money could nick - left over Iafter building a new loft, I offered him it. 'Nah' sez he, 'Mate won't be long. Well February came and still same. I explained I was worried my birds coming home thirsty would visit that first then sit out ... like they will a fish pond.

Said it would sonon be fixed .... well it was, I nipped over and pulled the lot down. New nieghbours are cool and have built it proper like.

Use to have the lad, about 25 next door that thought it funny to Mow the lawn when I was waited for the birds. Never thought they wouldn't trap though ... But did think he was trying to extract the Michael... So one Sat I cut the Wire and threw it ... Nice lad ever since lol.

When I kept goats the nieghbours had no prob ... But a couple of hundred yards up another road complained. So I had to get shot.

I changed the Goat house into a loft.

When a round the 'Complainers lot' and politely said 'Do us a favour matey, if you hear anyone complain ... of course I know you wouldn't, but if you hear oat, or any one that does, I won't let on you told... but I'll brick their windows regular, and you can bet your botom dollar their car never works etc.. But it's nice know you are OK about... but let me know..

And let them watch as I told all the adjacent nieghbours. Nah never heard a pip squeak ever about complaining.

Always smile and put thumb up to them though whenever I saw them lol

first i wouldnt say that you had a bad niegbour !!!!

but be careful not to be the bad niegbour, look at things from the other persons point of view, no one wants pigeons pooping on there stuff.

try to avoid upsetting the niegbours and always be polite and apologise if you do, and im not sure who said, make them prove it but! but im sure theres no need to get so defensive at this stage

good look

ben it may already be too late to adjust you existing birds bad  habit if you continue to loft fly and flag they will go to his roof.

Buy some trapping mix or Rape seed and feed em a little in front of your loft door, they will soon start to land and pick about, but you must let them , Not flag them mO.

Take no notice of roland's advice otherwise you would become a bad neighbour

Bad neighbours allow their birds to sit on other peoples roofs, and do absolutely nothing about it. It causes complaints and ill-feeling amongst neighbours.

You stopped your birds doing this, so no-one can call you a bad neighbour. Folks are more likely to come to you to talk about things on their mind now rather than have a man from the Council at your door to do it for them..

In fact, because you acted on your neighbour's complaint, you're a bloody good neighbour. You've also got better control over your birds so you're a better fancier for it too. Well done on both counts.

Well said Shadow... But we all live happy in my road, and no ones complins, most are getting electric fences, and My ladders ofen disappear and come back, in fact never know where half is, likewise them all. And they all enjoy them flying, ask on race days hows and what, with whys, and never have to worry is away for a day or two or 3/4 weeks holiday as there are well cared for. But yes I could wl be a bad nieghbour lol.

call that a bad neighbour, not running you down but my neighbour had a cement mixer at the back of my young bird loft which he filled with large rocks and pieces of metal which he turned on every time the birds were out, he has also been waving a towel as the birds came in to land and also had fires when they were out, he also threw rice all over my lofts so I would have trouble controlling the youngsters. Got my revenge by reporting him yo the local council as a nuisance neighbour, the council asked him to go in and explain what his problem was, guess what? did not attend but everything has now stopped. Wigan Council is not even pigeon friendly as they won't even let you keep pigeons on a council allotment, but because I complained that he was a nuisance neighbour they had to act.

Yep, well done Beanz.

You certainly had cause for complaint and went about it the right way.

Picture of a pair of legs sticking out a revolving cement mixer springs to mind.  ;D  Good that it didn't come to that!!!  ;D   ;D   ;D

Bruno, thought about it beleive me, had a couple of calls from people who were willing to come and do it so that I wouldn't be involved, however in the end I pay my council tax let them earn it for a change.

i had a similar problem and cured it through feeding. dont be afraid to miss the odd feed and have them very hungry when they go out. once you have them in the habit of trapping straight back you can increase the feed a little at a time and they should not get the habit back. my own golden rule is that anything not in the loft within 20 seconds of landing goes without food. they soon learn

My birds did not go on his house or any house for that matter he was just an *expletive removed* as he complained about my birds flying over his garden, I offered to put a sign up telling them not to fly over it but he refused that offer.I let my widowhood cocks out at 05-30 in a morning and they were back in by 05-50 and so he never saw them then as he was in dreamland, he works in St.Helens court so since I work nights I used to get up and pick my daughter up afrom school at 3pm so when I got home the widowhood cocks went out again so he did not see them then as he was still at work, the only birds he saw were my youngsters unless it was weekend so I don't know how he could complain. Oh i forgot to mention all my other neighbours backed me up with statements saying there was no trouble with the birds. When I bought my house 4 years ago the land was owned by the council and was classed as an allotment which with Wigan Council they can only be used for gardening, so I asked them to sell me the land which they did and I had to have planning permission and had 3 visits from environmental health who were happy with it, I also asked the *expletive removed* when I moved in if he had any problems with me have pigeons which he said no as he thought about getting some once but there were too many cats about, so why he suddenly changed I don't know.
