Keepsmilingqueen Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 Hi i have a question about training, i race on the south road and in the past have just trained based on the line of flight the birds would take to get home from a race with my furthest training toss being thirsk. But now im at university i go to newcastle daily (which is north) about an hours drive away, this means im not going to have the time or the finances to train as much as id like. Would it be suicide to toss them in newcastle provided i built up the distance in stages. Or would it mean on a race day they would overfly my loft and head off for newcastle, or even worse would they get totally confused when i tossed them in the north for the 1st time and head off for the highlands of scotland !! :-/ thanx in advance sharron
Wiley Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 alot of people train all distances mate east north south and west wouldnt do them no harm. One guy i know takes his birds wherever he is going whatever part of the country on the compass
REDCHEQHEN Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 We take ours North Sharron because of work - and they got lost first time, no problems after that, Wouldn't do that with young birds though ................ ;D
blackjack Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 Sir I train in any direction look at Frank Kay ,Des Coulter and many others tramliners are no used to anyone get them to think .
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 Hello Sharron If you make sure they are well motivated on race day, thay will come straight as a die. The first couple of times will be a wake up call for them when you change direction training but after that if they are any good you should not have any problem.
square_peg Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 as gareth says first time is a bit of a scary toss, take your doo's in stages till you are at the "end" then take them all the time ,any weather ,you will be surprised how clever your doo's are.

Keepsmilingqueen Posted December 3, 2006 Author Report Posted December 3, 2006 Thanx for all the replies so far, looks like it may turn out far better than id anticipated they may even get more flying time than usual ;D it just seemed such a shame when i would be going there anyway, not to put the basket in the car and take them for the ride as many of you have said it may even enhance there performance by getting them to think. another small query, the car park is about 10mins from the city centre were there are loads of ferals infact in gereral everywhere i look in newcastle there are ferals, will they drag my race birds down into town or will my birds get away ok ???
