Hi all,

Does anyone ring there youngsters with the boddy + ridewood permenant name and address rings ??

if so does it effect putting on /removing race rubbers as birds would then have a permenant ring on each leg, and would this method or id be frowned upon in the club ??

thanx

nah not frowned upon mate alot of ppl in my club use them all they do is the address ring gets lifted up and rubber goes on!i woulkdnt use it incase it got caught up or the address ring during the race covered up the rubber

They are not allowed for racing in NEHU Sharron you are only allowed to wing stamp, you can't even use removable telephone number rings for the national. We use the removable type for young birds, but they have to be taken off for the National race

With the removable rings, its best to put on same leg as union ring, as it does get caught in the rubber

thanx Redcheqhen i thought id heard they were at least frowned upon, didnt know they were totally outlawed lol

i think i shall invest in a wing stamp, i did use the clippy ones on the young birds last year, but i got a young hen back from the stray centre and someone had actually removed my address + tel ring, and replaced it with a plain clip ring, strangely enough they left her race rubber on, and they didnt phone me about her, she only came back a month later via transporter, so i felt them a waste of cash and was very dissapointed in whoever took it off and didnt phone me, i think the fact that i went to the trouble of ringing with my contact details made it plain i wished to be informed.

So i was hoping to use something more premanent, never mind

Im rather grateful Redcheqhen flies with NEHU like me, or id have tried them in 2007, bred loads of youngsters and not been able to race a feather lol. it seems daft that R.P.R.A allows them and the NEHU doesnt, after all what harm can they do, they only help reunite lost pigeons back with fanciers quickly + directly. :B

I have been using this type of ring for years now,i just have my telephone number printed on mine and when i order them i usually have the same colour as that years rpra ring. The only problem i,ve come across in recent years since i,ve started doing a lot of showing again is other people remark about having them on the birds in the show as the judge might know you and could easy pick out your birds.Last year at Blackpool there was a foreign company that were selling clip rings that had your phone number lazered into them so i purchased some of those and found them very good, the numbers are supposed to stay on there for good, and of course you can put these on or take them off the birds when you like.

hi  sharon i have used id rings since i started racing and there are good points and bad points , the good ones are obvious ure birds stand better chance of being reported , bad points the ring sometimes get caught on things when birds are flying  or perching , hope this helps . :) :)

What a complete rip off,the seller wants £18.50 when you can buy them direct from boddy&ridewood for £11.50.Easy way to make £7.00.

I particulary like his claim that he has to send the order to Belgium.

lol if you look @ the ring their got boddy&ridewood plasted over them pmsl

what a great way robbing fellow fanciers.

he wants naming and shaming!!!! :-/

I use the coil ones. Certainly easier for members of public to contact you if they find the bird. I lost one on a training toss this summer. Two hours later a guy rang me from no more than half a mile from the release point. He had picked the bird up from the ground (broken keel), his daughter wanted to keep it as a pet but, because it had my number on he rang up.  Not all non fanciers know to look for the wing stamp (or how to open the wing) nor how to locate the owner using the RPRA ring number and, it's too much trouble for some!

The coil rings can be used for training and, if necessary, removed for racing.

if this ever happened to anyone and they need a ring off, i have a pair of clippers designed to remove rings off birds, hook over the top of the ring and then cut like a scissor they cut straight through the ring.
