Larebred yearling just come home

Just looked out of the window and seen a blue on the garden.Turns out it is one of my late bred yearlings lost in the first race.He still has his race rubber on just a tad run down so he is in quarantine for the next week.Really pleased he came home .He was only trained to 80 miles as a youngster and this was his first time in the race basket.

Mate you're short of birds. He can find his way home. Keep him. We had a cock picked up in the street. Fancier kept him over winter. He is now back with us and racing. Never trained, first race 122 miles next 138 next 163 miles. Third race up with the front runners. If he can find his way home after this length of time he obviously knows when he's on to a good thing. He aint gonna get a free ride but if he keeps coming he can go to Sarran with the BICC. Then as a late bred yearling he will have earned his perch for the winter. However we are short of cocks this year. A hen wouldn't have been so lucky.

Agree a lot with you ... mind I like the Latebreds to have a couple of tosses first year, then a couple when racing starts and a couple of short 100 - 150 milers first year. Next year they can and do go anywhere and take all the beating. If room, like I say, good to supplement your team with some August bred in the purple birds. Sure  you have to wait awhile and be patient, but those that are with you 18 months down the line are right for Mating, prepare and doing the buisness I believe.

i would say if youve plenty patience ,, he could still make a good 2 year old

Yep rest it up... a few weeks down the line a couple of gentle chucks to gret confidence back. Then WHEN sunny let it a a race or two from about 100 miles or so. Then rest it up till what it was bred for.... NEXT season! JMO
