Guest Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 well done Andy mate.Did you get the last one back? ;D yes Ronnie , on the loft @ 7.30 am this morning . looks ok ,if a little tired . ;D andy
Guest Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 Well, had something like yourself Andy, 8 tosses up to 20 miles and put all 12 into 1st race @ 63 miles but not even close: 20 minutes behind leader, winning vel 928 and mine on 817, 23rd of 420 birds, and beating only 5 of the 20 members who sent. 11 out of 12 by 5pm [8 hours] but not happy about condition they were in coming home, and reckon they were just not fit enough to face the brisk NW wind. No sign of No12 today, but the others are OK, so more mid-week training this week, and back to same racepoint on Saturday.
Guest Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 i intend to send at least twice to 20 mile this week Bruno , and hopefully 24 to next race , leaving 4 at home (just in case) . hoping for a better result next week . time will tell ??? andy
Guest Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Ours get trained as and when we think it is right for them. You get fanciers saying 'Ohhh I havent taken mine they go for 2 hours at home, why bother' But they are the birds that when they go to their first race , will not know what the hell to do. And will not leave the lib site. Our birds have a toss mon, tues, weds, thurs (weather permitting) and dont normally go out at the home end. Now they are up in 2's , 3's , 4's , dont want a dumb pigeon following the leader. All the time taking them to the same point, as I belive this is where the race is won from , when the bird gets to that area, 'bang' s/he's away. Before racing training started 2 weeks before the 1st race going to aroud 5 miles, then increasing up to the final point, which I would say is around 18 miles in a straight line (just google earthed it!).Basket Home - Basket Home - Basket Home - think you get the picture!
Guest Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 mine have had the same this week Geraint 3 tosses 20 mile or so and no loft flying , due to 3 being taken by hawks . ? see if it works this coming Saturday ?// andy
Guest jason Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 the one-loft birds have had 4x 20 mile chucks this week, I'll get another in later this afternoon and one in the morning too! Jason
Guest Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Tuesday and Wednesday this week from the same point, around 18 miles. Put ets clock in and just as well because they are now home before both of us - place felt like 'marie celeste' Tuesday, so thought I'd pop in and change water before birds arrived home, only to discover all of them were already home, inside the loft.

Wiley Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 i think it all depends what system your racing andy, if there on eggs ect i think motivation should be done throughout the week, like feeding pigeons near the nest ect if you notice a cock or hen particually aggressive on the nest. All little things. I fight with my birds every day that motivates them as they believe im there to over take there perch. But as i have majority seperated my main motivation comes on a friday!
symbro Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 friday is shipping night. get em rest up and ready
jimmy white Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 in my opinion yb,s need well schooled , basket trained etc, but not to be "hammered"as yb season is only a few races ,,but as ob,s [with the guts not knocked out of them] will race for many years
Guest Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 Tuesday & Wednesday again this week, two different locations, same general area and direction 18 - 20 miles, east. They've been on their own this week, and one or two been a wee bit erratic. Its my 3rd race Saturday 11th, Otterburn 82 miles. Was 11th last week, 1 minute behind winner but my returns were very gappy, 13/14 on day which includes a 2yo and 2 x yearling latebreds trainers - in training for next year that is.
Roland Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 Can't tire them out as such. Like kids they recuperate by next morning if they over do it.... which is rare as they - like all youngster just love to fly. That's when you know they are happy, content and fit for a race. 50 or more miles every day wouldn't hurt them, as their recuperation is geared just for that. JMO
little sam Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 my first year racing and first race ever on aturday mine have had 2 tosses from 16 mile and 2 tosses at 26 miles and one more at 26 miles 2morrow i think this is enough for a 97 mile race i wont be sending all as there are a few that show there true colours in training so pick wisely
Guest CS Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 It will be the best training for youngsters, Tues, Wed and Thursday morning + afternoon if you can...Best of luck with your young birds racing this year
bluebar99 Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 Hello folks my first race is the 25th of march and is a 170 miler. I have the birds only up to 45 miles 8 times already and plan on giving them this toss 4x a week and off they go to the first race. Do you guys think they can handle the big 130+ mile jump? They do the 45 mile toss under and hour and fly for another hour around the loft upon arrival. The birds look sharp as can be but am kinda weary about the big jump. Any advice? I am still debating on whether I should give them a 80 miler this weekend and the next to further prepare them if need be. ps the birds are on the dark system. jan
Guest Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 ;D update , have had 14 tosses in total , and have been 8th first race , 6th second race , and 1st & 8th in 3rd race , so along with right birds and feeding seems to have been just right ? will have one or two more this week @ 25 mile , and hopefully will be there abouts ? some losses experienced , all home first race , lost 4 from 28 on 2nd race , and lost 2 from 23 in 3rd race . (1 kept home) ......... any comments welcomed ?? andy
