jimmy white Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 do the best yb,s make the best ob,s,,,,reasons for answers
jimmy white Posted August 14, 2007 Author Report Posted August 14, 2007 in my experience would say no,,, would be more inclined to go for a yb that has came steady throughout racing and training ,not necessary winning
Wiley Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 my most consistent ybs have always turned out the best. However have had yb winners to come well as old birds. But an old fancier used to say up our club, young bird winners tomorrows dinners lol but personally found gd and bad in both consistent ybs and gd ybs. ;D
Guest shadow Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 I have had young birds win everything in front of them but never survive past the yearling stage
jimmy white Posted August 25, 2007 Author Report Posted August 25, 2007 one of the best pigeons i ever had ,,done nothing as a yb , in fact was" lost" for a while,as a yb but in doing so, only had 3 races as yb :-/ strange things pigeons
THE FIFER Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 one of the best pigeons i ever had ,,done nothing as a yb , in fact was" lost" for a while,as a yb but in doing so, only had 3 races as yb :-/ strange things pigeons yes jimmy and u can have a youngster fly 2-3 70-100ml races and lose it the next week in a 20ml toss,
swilcox Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 No but sometimes yes, there arent any rules on this one!!! Every pigeon is an idividual!!!
thunderboult Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 not all yb's lost are bad one's either, i have a cock in my race team who was lost as a yb from woking(153mls) i sent for him and he has'nt put a foot wrong since and he had'nt done anything before i lost him,he's flown the channel out to liege on the east route and poitiers on the south scoring about 5/6 times he's the only yb i've had reported since 2005
korhil Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 in the past i found my best obs were not hammered as ybs, 2 or 3 100 mile races then stopped, thats what im hoping again after restarting this yb season?
schouwman71 Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 ive had a cock bird come to win the first y/bird race this year,i lost him the 2nd race for 10 days then returned, could tell he had spent the 10 days out aswell,i got him back healthy again and sent him to the fourth race were he came 5th club 1st 2/bird club ( not darkness ).what i am saying is that they are individuals like stu wilcox says, there the ones that do come to win has yearlings and 2 yr olds, i had many like this in the oldred fox janssens years ago, usually if they won has youngsters they won has old birds again.
thunderboult Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 i won the first 2 yb races this year and lost the both of them in the third race which i also won
deanbruton Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 as most replies they are all individuals, some win as yb's some don't as there are only 4 or 5 prizes in every club for example our club has 5 prizes over 12 races so only 60 prizes with over 600 rings sold, so not very good odds for a yb to win a prize. I look for consistency and all have to fly a race or two preferrred which then sorts the chaff out. But there are exceptions one late bred cock in 2004 no training or basket work as yb raced as yearling to win 4 firsts, in prizes every race to Cholet 343 miles and scored in national.
CHUNK73 Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 hope mine turn out good as old birds one hen has had 2x1st one 2nd its sister has won one 3rd one 2nd and breeder buyer there brother has got one 2nd and come well all season
jimmy white Posted September 8, 2007 Author Report Posted September 8, 2007 in my experience would say no,,, would be more inclined to go for a yb that has came steady throughout racing and training ,not necessary winning like sappers wee hen ;D ;D ;D
Back garden fancier Posted September 9, 2007 Report Posted September 9, 2007 Hope the steady young birds make the best old birds, mine are very steady! Been last every race, but only lost 2, other members wiped out weeks ago. Was last again yesterday, but got all 5 birds home in half hour after 6 hours on the wing. Chap who won only got that one out of 6!
matt Posted September 9, 2007 Report Posted September 9, 2007 i recon looking at the majority of fancyers i know natural ybs that are good stay good however darkness ybs don't always some have had good'ns come from darkness team but there best 9 out of ten come from naturals im going to have both next year though because darkness seem to be better ybs if its done properly
