wolfey11 Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 How do you experts go about this? Do you just open spare boxes & move young cocks in with old birds? - Or do you take old birds out & shut their boxes? What do you do if one young cock takes 2 boxes? Do you move more young cocks in than spare boxes so they have to "battle it out" for a box? Help required please
Guest j.bamling Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 i always remove my old widowhood cocks to the yb section they winter out in there i close there boxes up then let the young cocks in they can pick a box when i pair them up in feb or march i let the old cocks back into there boxes this way they dont bully the young cocks !!!

Mike Lycett Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 Get the young cocks in there asap & let em sort themselves out
sapper756 Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 Like you Mike I just put the young cocks in with the old ones and let them sort the boxes out themselves.
Guest j.bamling Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 mike what about when an old cock will take 2 or more boxes a young cock in a new section wont go in and tackle an old cock out of a box and if he did my old cocks would make a right mess of them
debonair.pidjin Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 Hi, I had the same problem, and here's an older post where you can get some ideas: http://www.pigeonbasics.com/forum/blah/m-1167071163/ . Good luck and try to help the yearlings a bit... I think it's necessary. Some older cocks can be a real pain, we don't want stress in the loft.
carl Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 I leave my ybs to finish there moult in the yb section then take old cocks out and close there boxes, the young cocks should take the remaining boxes, keep an eye on them as 1 cock may take more than one box.
phillips Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 I ALWAYS LET THE YOUNG COCKS MOULT OUT IN THE WIDOW SECTION AND REMOVE ALL THE OLD COCKS AND CLOSE THERE BOXES BUT WITH MY SYSTEM THE YOUNG COCKS NO NOTHING ELSE THAN A BOX WHEN I WEAN MY YBS THE COCKS GO STRAIGHT INTO A SECTION WITH 25 WIDOW BOXES IN THEM AND THEY ARE RACED ON WIDOW FROM THE OFF SO WHEN THE TIME COMES TO MOVE THEM OVER TO THE OLD COCK SECTIONS THEY SETTLE IN PRETTY QUIKE ONCE A YOUNG COCK AS TAKEN TO HIS BOX ANY OLD COCK WILL HAVE A JOB MOVING HIM OUT YOUNG COCKS GET VERY AGGRESSIVE
ACE LOFTS Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 we throw them all in 1 day after the last y/b race and let them sort it out them selvs, they have all winter to fight and choose a box,
jimmy white Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 i close all boxes , the side the cocks have , i close , but leaving enough room for a bird to just perch ,, yb,s in asap, theyll soon find a" perch" which will be their box the following season
