Guest TAMMY_1 Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 well here is the usual tool kit taken to a show, or used the night before, boiling water hairdryer insect powder insecticide spray chalk cleaning or lighter fluid cotton wool talcum powder scissors nail clippers emery boards or a nail file soap small brush towel When you are handling the birds the night before basketing put talc or the chalk on your hands to stop any friction between you and the birds, check eyes, ceres and wattles and any small blemishes can be taken out with the chalk , check all the feathers and you may have to trim some to keep them in line, best to use insect powder or spray at this time, take the small brush and soap and water and clean the legs and feet , plus clean the identification rings, small stains on the cover feathers can be removed using the cleaning or lighter fluid with cotton wool, bad soiling can be taken out by an individual bath and then dry them with the hairdryer, just a few, but before penning again check for any marks picked up in transit and clean using wet wipes or lighter fluid. Simple . Dont keep showbirds , but were things i read or were told about
little sam Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 CHEERS TAMMY MY CLUB HOLDS SHOWS EVERY YEAR I WOULD LOVE TO WIN 1 AND ITS TOP MONEY BUT NOT REALLY BOTHERD ABOUT THAT AT MOMENT THANKS AGAIN TAMMY
Guest Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 After you basket your birds especially with aluminium carriers and before you close the lid place a cpl of sheets of Newspaper on the top this absorbs any moisture and keeps the bloom, we also use thin cotton gloves when handling them before putting them into the pens.

But the only thing that concerns me out o that list is the lighter fluid bit, If i started showing I would give the wipes a try before the lighter fluid.

Simple . Dont keep showbirds , but were things i read or were told about good post tammy only thing i would change is using powder instead of spray ,as this can be seen if done the dayb4 ,,and if the bird is badly soiled it would be too close to the show day to bathe it and dry with hair drier ,as a good judge would notice this as well ,, but excellent post for show help, just one other thing [not in your post ;D] is the aluminium carriers are very bad for damaging their tails [air perforations at front and back ] but may not interfere with a show bird well used to this type of carier but racers dont take kindly to these
