Can anyone tell me  what use pot ash is to racing birds and how and when to you feed it to the birds? 8)

Different language here ?????? But I presume ?????? (could be wrong) Potash is, what I call Charcoal etc, & if it is, it's very important in my view. When one has bird/birds which are a bit of colour etc, you can always drop a couple of pieces down there throat as an example, the size of a pea sort of thing, & it will help get rid of any toxins in there system, which may be causing problems etc. Now!!!!! I have an open fire, so I get mine cheap  ;D ;D ;D & each year I collect it & then crush it up to a powder etc, then put a spoonful on their grain each week with some oil, so I know they are always getting some in there system at times, also you can have it your grit etc but I much prefer my way !!!!!.

"Remember also" even today in some hospital's etc at times, when they have a bad case of poisoning & all the modern methods ????? that they have tried, have failed. They will try charcoal as a last resort, & many a time it works. as strange as it may seem.

Enjoy.

I think you are referring to potassium permanganate, otherwise known as "condys crystals" or potassium potash. Yes it is good in the bath water and is also good in the drinker after a race to help clear the birds system of anything picked up in the pannier.

POTASH - is not potassium permanganate

The Boulby Potash Mine

The Boulby potash mine, situated on the North Yorkshire coast, is the UK's only commercial potash mine and the most important non-hydrocarbon mineral operation in Britain. The mine started production in 1973 and is currently managed by Cleveland Potash Ltd and employs over 800 workers. Mining operations cover some 13.5 km, reaching approximately 5 km offshore and The Crown Estate is responsible for the deposits of potash occurring beneath the seabed. We issue a lease for its extraction and each year we receive revenue based on the amount of potash extracted from the offshore section of the mine.

Potash is a generic term for a variety of potassium bearing minerals but it is Sylvinite that is primarily mined in the UK. Sylvinite is a mixture of potassium chloride and salt in varying proportions and at Boulby it runs in seams averaging 7m in thickness at depths of up to 1,500m. About 90% of UK potash is used in the production of fertiliser while the remaining 10% is used in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. However around 60% of all UK production is exported to the continent each year.
