The White Rapido Man Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 I have a simple question to the more experience racing men amongst us..... As a woking man I am away from home all day....... from 8.00am to 6.00. During the coming works I envisgae opening up, about 7.30 to scrape,. train & feed and........ any later for me and it wont be do'able To fly YB's on the darkness system...... will this be too much daylight for them???? If so I need another suggestion!!!! thanks TWRM
Guest j.bamling Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 it will be fine mine are on at the minute 8.00 till 6.00 an extra 1/2 an hour wont make any diferance 7.30 till 6.00 is still only 10 & 1/2 hours light so they are still 13 & 1/2 hours dark so more hours dark than light it makes no odds what time as long as you keep them to a system
Guest Paulo Posted March 26, 2008 Report Posted March 26, 2008 I'm doing 9.00 to 6.00 at the minute my first time trying it as well
edthekid Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 i do 7 till 5.30....you get the odd 1 drop a flight but most hold em
andy Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 i do 7 till 5.30....you get the odd 1 drop a flight but most hold em You get the odd one no matter what times. I darken at 6:30pm and open up at 7:30 am, have done for the last 6 years, with no probs..
sapper756 Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 I darken at 5,30pm, and open up at 7am, this suites my work pattern, never had any problems, but do rely on good weather at weekends to get them out.
Taylorsloft Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 i use a timer switch from 10 am to 7pm with one of those uv light blubs that gives sunlight
Merlin Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Doesnt make any diference T.W.R.M.,more important to open/close at regular times every day Another myth re dark youngster, with apparently may opting for rarly breeding, mine dont go onit till 6th of April till- 6th of June, which in my instance is a month before their first race.
jimmy white Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 i used to do 9am till 5pm but agree with merlin , theres no need to breed these too early as it is dark anyway in dec, jan,, [just spending extra cash on grub ;D] thats the point of the system, and as said b4 , no matter what hours you do, you still get the odd one throwing a flight
Guest chrisss Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 heres one for you folks, what ybs i have are darkened from 17.00 until 09.00 now i have some ybs coming very soon, for me the ideal time to let them out [first time] is about 20 mins before it gets dark ,can i leave the birds in "natural" light [ie darken them down]about 2 hrs later one night? so that i can get the other birds out or stick to the pattern and let them out about 16.00?
Merlin Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 I would stick to pattern you already have, and leave new youngsters out when others have come back and are picking about after flying, for a few days.
