Guest Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 DO YOU THINK IT IS ABOUT TIME IT WAS BROUGHT IN BY THE R.P.R.A
westburylofts Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 YES I DO THINK IT SHOULD BE ALLOWED. IT WILL NOT MAKE PIGEONS FLY QUICKER. RAY
Chatrace Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 If you do get them, you will never want to be without one. I still watch for every bird on race day,but no running grabbing and scaring the birds . Shipping and reporting time ismuch faster and for training and Inventory its the best.
Guest Posted December 12, 2005 Report Posted December 12, 2005 Can't vote, don't believe I have the right to decide another organisation's business. But from the business angle (1) the fewer ets systems sold ... the higher the price of individual kits to the fancier and (2) if market is too small, too few firms manufacturing ets . . higher price to fancier. Another organisation using the system would help drive down the cost of this type of clock. Quite apart from this clock's high cost, after the 1st pigeon is timed, there are serious timing disadvantages timing multiple birds into a conventional clock against timing the same number of birds into ets. That hasn't really been addressed in Scotland.
blue bar Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 untill youve used one you wouldnot be without one i have been useing one now for 3 yrs i think there brillent.
Guest NUMA Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 i work odd hours so it would help me on race days. i think we should now have the option of using it. we need to move with the times.
andy Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 NUMA, IM LIKE YOU WORK ODD HOURS AND ON CALL EVERY SECOND WEEKEND. IM ALWAYS ON EDGE INCASE I GET CALLED AWAY WHEN BIRDS DUE HOME, HAVE USED ETS THE LAST TWO SEASONS ITS THE GREATEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD.(IN MY OPINION)...
Henrik Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 I dont have ETS but people in my club use it and the speed at which you can race mark the birds and also the reading of the clock is brilliant. It is also much more secure than conventional methods. Dont take any heed of these people who are continually knocking it as in my opinion they dont know what they are talking about. If you have any doubts go and see a demonstration or talk to the Unikon Rep at Blackpool then make your own mind up...
Guest slugmonkey Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 With the hours I work I wouldnt race if it wernt for ETS I think it is the best thing since bottled beer with the new Benzing setup you can get results from your loft on your telephone they also can setup where results are instantenous soon we wont have to go to club to get results
Guest Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Don't fall into the trap of thinking only one ets system. Like saying 'must' use only STB clock. There's a £200 price difference between the cheapest and dearest systems available in the UK! Patrick Bros (Belgium) use one which is compatible with all the others.. don't think its available here, but surely a must for the club master.
carl Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Yes i would try it but what about the people that couldnt afford it,disadvantage i would say,i must say it is very helpfull to disabled people old people etc and great so your not grabbing the birds on return. So my vote is yes
carl Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 How much does it cost per loft to set up.
Chatrace Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 The Benzing Express which is the one that costs the least, the Price here is $535 for the clock and pads for the loft and Chip rings are $2 each if you by 100 or more $1.20 each if less than 100. I like the Benzing clocks over others I'v seen.
Guest slugmonkey Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 I am currently using Unikon but will soon be using the Benzing the Unikon has done well for me as I have only had slight problems with it and those are ALL mechanical as my lofts are 300 feet apart I wish the Unikon guys would get back on the stump as I would rather buy Unikon but I dont think they are ahead of the market now
big_al Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 LIKE HENRIK DON'T HAVE ETS AT MOMENT . BUT WILL HOPEFULLY HAVE IT THE NEAR FUTURE. MAYBE EVEN SOONER ( HINT HINT ) HOPE THE WIFE READS THIS. SHE KEEPS ASKIN WAT I WANT FOR XMAS ;D
Guest Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 Carl, few prices advertised!!! Benzing Express (B&R) £249. Unikon, two years ago, wanted 2 x £250 payments for a 'basic' system. BHW recent advert, 2nd hand Unikon = £400. So basically almost twice price of current most expensive CONVENTIONAL clock. As I've posted before, unrealistically high price held due to too few competing companies and too few UK sales. Sales limited due to small UK market. Small market due to too few UK organisations sanctioning its use. At the end of the day, its the fanciers pocket thats suffering. PS... High number of votes 'for' in the poll. Is the reason because voters are already making use of computer technology? Hesitate to use 'computer' because the technology is no more advanced than a standard TV remote control.
Guest Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 We use the Unikon and find it very user friendly. One of the best things it has to offer is that the module can be taken out of the clock for clock reading and the clock still times in any birds that come home while you are away, just put the module back in and the late bird show up on the display, The module is about the size of a ciggie packet.
AlanWilkins Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 isnt the point of racing gettin the bird in not walking over a pad some where on the loft, bad traps trying to get them in is all part of the game Whats goin to be next sticking the pads all over the house roof so they dont even hit the loft
Guest Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 There is an AU rule that the sensor is at least 50% contained withing the loft and club Officials check the placements
Guest Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 General lack of knowledge on this system evident in Alan Wilkins post. Scottish Homing Union ETS rules state system must be within the loft. Pads are sealed in place by Fed officials. So a bad trap has the same effect with or without ETS... you still need to get the bird into the loft to time it in. How do you think the one loft races are decided when 20 or so drop together? The first bird into the loft wins.
AlanWilkins Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Well only my own thought but people cheat with clocks ive even heard of one that had the bottom machined out of it so i recon some boffin will find out a way of boosting the signal or some thing in time.
Guest Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Alan, take your point about cheating, but I made a similar point about the limited money to be made in this hobby / sport. Electronic genius like myself would be more inclined to work towards relieving the banking systems of a few £gazillions than settling for one and a tanner from fiddling an ETS clock, and it would be MUCH more fun and annoy a LOT more people !!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
Chatrace Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 Well only my own thought but people cheat with clocks ive even heard of one that had the bottom machined out of it so i recon some boffin will find out a way of boosting the signal or some thing in time. The old wooden windup clocks can be fixed to come apart and the time hands moved for an early bird easier than the new EClocks can be. A single wooden dowel drilled in at the right point can be removed and a wire inserted to change the setting. We have found several here when the flyer forgot to turn the plug to realign the grain of the wood. There will always be cheaters, but there are more honorable flyers than cheaters.
Guest Posted December 23, 2005 Report Posted December 23, 2005 the r.p.r.a are right to keep it out i would never use it
