Guest chrisss Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 been new to racing [and having little idea of the history] has there ever been a race or racing from ireland into the uk [any part]and if racing from france gets dumped again could it be done?
Roland Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 No reason why not ... it is possiblely the fairest route, overall, when we go Ireland. Likewise in reverse I'd wager. Just flying opposite from us really. Pigeons have no idea which way, or preference they fly ... just members!
Merlin Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 Agree with Roland, the only change would be the the longest flyer now would in all probability be shortest flyer, wonder why its never been mooted,or maybe its the "channel"
Merlin Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 If I remember correctly many years ago, theScotish flyers flew from Ireland, this was a good few years ago,and some years ago the French fanciers also had a liberation, not sure if they were back since, its not the easiest place to fly out of,or into .
Castleview Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 I was thinking the same think Chrisss. Ireland would be good to fly from.
rembrant2coo Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 The SNFC flew skibbereen in 1900-01-02 and you can go further back to 1894 dublin 1895 thurles 1896 cork 1897-98-99 skibbereen for the west section boys all these races won in the WEST sect G&W HAMILTON GOVAN 1894 SKIBBEEREN W.S.ANDERSON MONKTON 1895 THURLES W.PATERSON RENFREW 1896 CORK G BROWNLIE COATBRIDGE 1897 SKIBBEEREN J.H.JOHNSTONE UDD/STON 1898 "" "" J.BURNS LARKHALL 1899 "" ""
ch pied Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 the fancier's ,in the kent area would get about 450mls from our north coast.
Guest wattle Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 all the pigeons would stay in ireland ;D they would like it to much here, to ever go home, eating popcorn and drinking guinness all day and not to mention they lovely weather thats here, rain , wind, cold all bukking year long.
gangster Posted April 1, 2008 Report Posted April 1, 2008 all the pigeons would stay in ireland ;D they would like it to much here, to ever go home, eating popcorn and drinking guinness all day and not to mention they lovely weather thats here, rain , wind, cold all bukking year long. just like manchester then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Roland Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 No Gangster, they are too scared to leave there unless paying a toll lol Mind very few if any dare go and support their team at old traffold.... the price is too high, and that's wahy they allotted tickets never get used complete ... except home supporters ... :K)
Merlin Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Fair play to you Rembrandt, you are obviously a mine of information, race routes should in the interests of fair play be alternated, say on a two yearly basis,if the routes were available to fanciers, might help to share the cake a bit more evenly. Think it was about 2025 years ago the French had a liberation here, possibily to do with some cultural event ,lots of French birds stayed to sample our Gaelic hospitality. Dont think they"French Fanciers" have been back since.,unless its for holidaying
pearse1888 Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 irelands a hard race even when your in ireland southern ireland doesnt race as far as we do in the north
Merlin Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 But then again if we were to race in an Easterly direction say from Brussells area,we would in all probability North and South be flying somewhat similar distances,we live in hope
