PIGEON_MAN Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 right here goes just built a little stock loft to house six pair were would be the best place to buy some birds i fly from 60-450miles so lookimg for alrounders Your heading says Best birds for Stock so to me buying latebreds or youngsters is a waste of time and could set you back a few years, personally I think that this is a difficult area in our sport because it is very hard to buy birds that will breed you winners from the start, and what fancier in their right mind will sell you birds that are breeding them winners and really that is what you want in your stock birds, even as some say buy pigeons that have done well racing but I,m sure there are many on here that have had a good racer but never been any good as a stock bird, the only sure way i think is to go to entire clearance sales and look through the birds and select the ones that were breeding them their winners at least then you know that they have bred winners before, they may cost you a bit but at least your not wasting money on birds that havn,t bred anything.

p charlton Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 i would not go with that all my best stock birds have been late breeds some real minters if you can pick them you have a chance most flyers dont want to keep the late breeds and you have a lot better chance of getting well breed birds clearance sales are fine but you never know who as been there and had there pick b4 the sale id go for late breeds all the time
gangster Posted May 30, 2008 Report Posted May 30, 2008 frank shreaders a top breeder you wont go wrong there top birds....
p charlton Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 frank shreaders a top breeder you wont go wrong there top birds.... them german distance birds he as look the part
jakjak Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 Entire clearance sales is a good idea, look for the sire and dam of winners, or look for summer youngsters, and then you could have fly out stock
tarzan Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 frank1 now this might sound crazy ,but i would ask a genuine fancier if he could loan you some birds to improve your team ,dont always look at his best birds for success ,most fanciers every year cull young birds at end of the season ,look at it this way if they where good enough for his young bird team ,they could be good enough to breed from .im sure any genuine fancier with good birds would do this and wouldnt be thinking of how much he could charge you .ask him how he would pair them dont ask for a pedigree .ask as much advise as possible from him .tell him you want to make a family out of his birds to be as good as his .if possible ask to swap six youngsters with him . entire clearance sales many fools can be parted with monies for something that might be not what they seem to be .ive seen plenty of these sales where the super breeders go for thousands and always seem to be purchased by friends of the seller ..how many times have fanciers cleared out to restart after three years ,but in the three years you dont see much success with the birds sold in the clearance sale . yes a genuine fancier packing up could bring in the jewels at a clearance sale ,but be careful as many of these so called sales people are selling off cracking bits of paper for big monies and laughting all the way to the bank ,whilst the buyers dreams of success go in the bin .and its never the expensive birds fault it never turned out winners out you purchased.
Merlin Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 Go to a good consistent flyer, making sure his lines are working well for others, purchase latebreds off his best, at 25/30/£ ,ask questions, listen to him/her,keep fingers crossed, how many have paid big bucks for birds from fanciers, realizing too late,a lot of his success was down to his ability, and not his birds.
Guest Posted May 31, 2008 Report Posted May 31, 2008 When you go to a top flyer, buy the birds that breed the winners or if not pssible then buy their children, that will then be brothers and sisters to the winners. Not always the top flyers that breed winners either, i know a few that have the stock but don't know how to race them, but would i buy some off them, you bet! BTW where are you Frank?
