abbott75 Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Hi, We are thinking of changing our trap to a sputnik and were wondering if anybody could post some pictures and/or instructions that could help. Thanks, Adam!
Pompey Mick Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Adam, If you look in the Members Photos section and go to the 'Small backgarden city lofts' thread, you will see several examples of Sputnik traps fitted to lofts.
stevebelbin Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 I would say, make sure you go for the delux type with perspex as the rain can get in otherwise. I opted for the cheap one and its cost me more in the long run fitting perspex to all sides!!! Also I made a secondary bob trap on the inside so once the birds had entered they couldnt sit about in the trap whilst the flap was down, because cats can easily enter. Sounds complicated but mine have learnt to trap really quickly into them and they are good for settling YBs. Ill try to get a pic on, on monday.
Peckedhen Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Here's a photo of my home made one. I've adapted it a bit since the photo - perspex covers on sides in prevailing wind and over the dowelling part to stop predators entering.
mobster Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 nice one peckedhen... can you share to us the measurement your sputnik trap? regards gary
Peckedhen Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 OK. Length - 110cm Depth - 61cm Height - 65cm Height from base to landing board - 33cm The holes they go through are 10cm high and 10.5cm wide. Hope this helps Gary. Sue
jimmy white Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 WHAT A BRILLIANT SPUTNICK P PECKED HEN, PLENTY ROOM LOOKS VERY TIDY INDEED :)
Peckedhen Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 It works as a sputnik/aviary for me but, if I do start racing, it is too long to catch the birds when they trap - they soon learnt that if they run to the far end I can't reach them!!
jimmy white Posted September 2, 2006 Report Posted September 2, 2006 ;D ;D THINK IT WOULD BE VERY EASY TO MAKE A SLIGHT ADJUSTMENT, FOR RACE DAY , BUT LOOK AT THE ROOM YOUVE ADDED TO YOUR LOFT, YBS WILL LAP IT UP SITTING IN THE SUN :) :)MIND YOU THATS IF WE GET ANY :) STILL SAY ITS A CRACKER :)
