dwh Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 we fly 29 members in a mile and a half radius in our club our loft pos. is the most westerly to win our club on prevailing west winds our pigeons come over the rest of the clubs lfts and we still give overfly away
Guest slugmonkey Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 This is why I like the World ace race so well it is 6 races starting at 150 then 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, there is very little luck in this frmat it is flown in west Texas with a crosswind for most of the races and it is a one loft so no loft position advantage I have a bird on a trainer ( 60 ) he is right where I want him every time they move up 20 miles he gains about 40 positions he is Kaiser x Pinnacle ( cock ) Grondelier x Red Fox Jannssen he wont get good till the 300 but those last 3 races he should be great
Guest slugmonkey Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 we are 10 miles wide and 40 deep now the guys on the long end murder us on short fast races although I still win some of these out of turn !!!
Guest slugmonkey Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 they just timed in he was 136th at 60 miles and 1 minute back handler said came in group but stayed out flying he was 160th at 40 miles on these futurity trainers thats what I like to see them do !!!!!
dwh Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 thats some competition u got there s/m and a bit fair flying
Delboy Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Strangely enough Slugmonkey, I advocate that entirely. I personally don't want to get up in the night about 7 .30 to time in short races, so I can take the misses shopping or whatever twaddle many spout. I 'd much rather have a lay in. Infact I seldom ever do, and certainly haven't of late. Now if that means I send to expierence the birds, to get them honed to race finess, then so be it, for I am more than happy with the 1200 ypm races - or less - which are much more to my taste. Now if I lose those birds not happy with that, then fine, go and sit on a church top and save me feed. A good flyer when asked why he won't try the South Rd states simpley. 'I'm not interested in the 1500 ypm+ Velocities etc. and blow homes. I want the 1200y/pm or less'. etc. etc. Like the man says, 'Ask who won he 125 miler and it's hard to recall. Ask who won the 'Lerwick etc. and most know'. Where I live , in the west section of Scotland, if you can guarantee to get your pigeons to do 950 ypm in the SNFC channel races then you would almost certainly win 1st west section at least once every year. If you could achieve this then you would be looked upon as the best fancier in Scotland. Now do you see the difference flying 500 mls into different locations. ps 1200 ypm is a blow home to us
Guest slugmonkey Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Id be looking for some Stickelbaught x Jan Arden

Roland Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Very true Del Boy. Even a side West in wind gives the East Coast CLUB boys too much help for us to even contemplate staying with them, let alone beating them. All sections should be corridored like the shape of the Viking ship. Even all facing towards the breaking points would be good and a dsarnsite better and fairer.
Albear Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 I agree 1200 is a race!!! although watching them come from a 2700 ypm in a flock is exciting much rather see 3 on the drop at 1200 A plugger can get lucky at 2700 but there is NO luck for a sprinter at 400 and 1200 ypm Yes and it comes back to route, locality & environment if you want racing on the nose (but again it's some what of a macho thing, look at racehorses which Derby winner is the true champion, the one who wins on heavy going or the one that wins on good??), sadly the North rd on the western side of England & particularly Wales has very few still flying it, this is where you get your true test birds nearly always flying into a headwind, the lads who used to fly from Plymouth & Penzanze from Lerwick what iron birds they must have had, sadly we've lost them, However if there is anyone on this forum flying north road into Somerset please get in contact I would love to see some proper headwind North roaders or come to that any Welsh lads/lasses on here still flying North to Thurso & Lerwick. I hear fanciers saying I like a hard one, well I'm not so keen, I prefer a fair one that's steady then for me you get the athlete But hey I wouldn't give a butterflies pollen whether it was 2200 or 800 ypm if I had every bird home from 500 but for me especially the 550-700 mile races
