hi lads ,,i tought i had sorted me birds out for next year buy culling a few that didnt do oat and kepping 16 cocks and 16 hens...4 weeks ago i noticed 2 cocks layed in the corner of there section..the blue then started treading the flty,,so i took the flyty out thinking it was a hen,,looked in hens section yesterday the flyty was paired to a hen ,,today i see it treading this hen...so i dont no if its a hen or a cock...im either a hen short now or a cock...depends on the out come? any suggestions...does the needle cotton thing work or the cotton with a bit of lead on? thanks mark..... :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

It would be nice to have one thread on the opinions of cock or hen. My husband does a few and he mostly gets it right but none are 100% except if it lays eggs it's a hen :)

Toes the same length on a hen longer on the outside for a cock

Pelvis spread on a hen tight on a cock

Flat head on a hen, rounded on a cock

Thread and coin round circles for a hen and to and fro for a cock but you must have a clear mind or the thread will swing in the direction you are bias towards :-/

hi mark iv always used tha needle n cotton and found its 98% right hope it work for you if it go's around it's a hen and straight for a cock  :) :) :)

but a old old fancier said to me

that he determines it

by putting it too sleep or somin

he turn the bird over in the hand

if it is a cock it will turn over straight away

if it is a hen it does not

tried that m8..it goes round and round...lol..the bloody things wild as oat..if the hen lays its with ile put a nest bowl on the floor then if the eggs are full i no its a cock...i hope..lol..thats if it works that way..lol

if your gonna use needle and thread method mark hang it up so you can hold bird under it cos moves if you hold it  :)

look at its vent cocks smile hens frown [hold it at eye level when doing this and watch for any incoming lol]
