Guest frank dooman Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 teach them early to do as you want by hand feeding them the correct amount keep them a bit tight and when you shout them in they will come those that dont trap get nothing that day they soon learn do that every 2nd day they learn real quick
Guest bakes Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 i have just started up racing pigeons what is the best trapping method for young birds open door mate best way as soon as they drop in shut section door all you got to do then pick the bird up from box rubber off and into the clock if on ets sputnik with ets pad under landing board in side the loft as soon as they drop in and go through bobs there recorded. all the best k.baker
clive taylor Posted January 3, 2010 Author Report Posted January 3, 2010 some people have told me to get a stall trap fitted to my shed they said its quicker to clock the bird but i dont know
Guest frank dooman Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 i have just started up racing pigeons what is the best trapping method for young birds sory the above useing stall trap
Guest strapper Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 i have just started up racing pigeons what is the best trapping method for young birds 1st few times out ,be patient and try not to spook them, keep their feed down (dont starve them) and keep them wanting food...get a tin with corn in and shake it..they will come to recognise this sound. a good idea is to have some small wheat or something when they are out..trapping seed. if they eat that they wont be filled up and will more than likely come in.
Guest bakes Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 some people have told me to get a stall trap fitted to my shed they said its quicker to clock the bird but i dont know yes mate another good way you can get locking bobs like i had before going to sputnik when normal exercise or training let the bobs move freely on race day lock the bob when the bird drop in you gentle remove the rubber onto thimble then stamp down or if your on thimbles no need for thimble just plonk the rubber into the clock then stamp making shore its recorded properly nothink worse than your clock bodging up when you got bird dropping back happened to me mate by the time he got it sorted he had 5 birds already back for 5 minutes and in there boxs he wasnt pleased but he laughs about it now all the best.
aye ready Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 open door mate best way as soon as they drop in shut section door all you got to do then pick the bird up from box rubber off and into the clock if on ets sputnik with ets pad under landing board in side the loft as soon as they drop in and go through bobs there recorded. all the best k.baker no way what a load tosh, stall traps everytime if your using a conventional way of timing if ETS then slightly modify
dwh Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 i have just started up racing pigeons what is the best trapping method for young birds OPEN DOOR FOR ME ONCE THRU THE DOOR THEY DON'T GET OUT WELL MOST OF THE TIME
jimbhoy29 Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 the best method i used to get them is i use the football whistle. when there young and at feeding time just blow the whistle a couple of times they soon no when u blow it its feeding time. always get good traps young and old
adam owen Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 1st few times out ,be patient and try not to spook them, keep their feed down (dont starve them) and keep them wanting food...get a tin with corn in and shake it..they will come to recognise this sound. a good idea is to have some small wheat or something when they are out..trapping seed. if they eat that they wont be filled up and will more than likely come in. i use crushed maize mainly coz of the coloure and the same reason u said i find with this they see alot better coz of the orangeness till they get into things
Guest bakes Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 no way what a load tosh, stall traps everytime if your using a conventional way of timing if ETS then slightly modify so its best to use stall traps well i wounder how many people uses open door for ybs every year everyone use what they chooses to use to trap there birds back into the loft.
dwh Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 the best method i used to get them is i use the football whistle. when there young and at feeding time just blow the whistle a couple of times they soon no when u blow it its feeding time. always get good traps young and old yeah my mate brian cheetham uses one seems todo ok its a good idea though
aye ready Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 so its best to use stall traps well i wounder how many people uses open door for ybs every year everyone use what they chooses to use to trap there birds back into the loft. if me and you were flying against each other and 2 birds came into the area you with open door and me with stall trap, guess who would come out on top(wiseman)
jimbhoy29 Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 yeah my mate brian cheetham uses one seems todo ok its a good idea though coz i still play football the early ob races i sometimes need my granpa to time them in and hes got a different whistle and shout to me. so the football whistle the pigeons hear the same sound even though some1 different is at the loft and still come in with no problems
Guest strapper Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 one more tip ..peanuts...the type you get in pet shops for wild birds..but use the human consumption type. get your young ones accustomed to these..promise they will be gagging for more!
grizzal Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 we get them tame, trained to trap to the whisle and they trap to a sputnik and caught there. but everyone to there own method.
Guest bakes Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 if me and you were flying against each other and 2 birds came into the area you with open door and me with stall trap, guess who would come out on top(wiseman) wouldnt no as wont be racing against you best bird on the day will win.to me it dont maker if your trapping through open door, sputnik, stall trap the birds will have a rutein anyway as everytime they trap back into loft they do it most day sputnik, stall trap they can stand on landing board for a good while open door they fly straight in but all to your own.
aye ready Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 open door mate best way as soon as they drop in shut section door all you got to do then pick the bird up from box rubber off and into the clock if on ets sputnik with ets pad under landing board in side the loft as soon as they drop in and go through bobs there recorded. all the best k.baker and by the way if your working all day and you rely on the birds going in on there own WHILST AT WORK open door is not going to be much benefit to them coming home from training like i have to do 3 times a week so think before you post everyone is different and i can't think of anyone in my fed that flies open door with young birds
Guest bakes Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 and by the way if your working all day and you rely on the birds going in on there own WHILST AT WORK open door is not going to be much benefit to them coming home from training like i have to do 3 times a week so think before you post everyone is different and i can't think of anyone in my fed that flies open door with young birds i be doing it that way open door with my ybs if i choose to do open door i will race open door everyone that races use different ways to trap there ybs back i work dodgy shifts same as the misses but this is the way we have choosen to race our 2010 yb this is the problem because most use one way everyone else have to everyone has got here own methods if you work shifts and you cant be there for the birds to come back ets under sputnik landing board it dont bother me if no one in the club races open door with there ybs as long as im happy doing it i do it there not the ones that will be timeing the birds in they wont be the ones training the birds they wont be the ones feeding the bird i be doing it me and the misses the way i mantain my loft management is down to me not joe blogs up the club. like ive said before if it works for other people trapping back through sputnik, stall trap dont change it the birds are in a rutein all the best.
aye ready Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 i be doing it that way open door with my ybs if i choose to do open door i will race open door everyone that races use different ways to trap there ybs back i work dodgy shifts same as the misses but this is the way we have choosen to race our 2010 yb this is the problem because most use one way everyone else have to everyone has got here own methods if you work shifts and you cant be there for the birds to come back ets under sputnik landing board it dont bother me if no one in the club races open door with there ybs as long as im happy doing it i do it there not the ones that will be timeing the birds in they wont be the ones training the birds they wont be the ones feeding the bird i be doing it me and the misses the way i mantain my loft management is down to me not joe blogs up the club. like ive said before if it works for other people trapping back through sputnik, stall trap dont change it the birds are in a rutein all the best. still think you onto a loser with the open door method bakes, worked with the stall trap old/young birds on ets now and never looked back, been involved with pigeons 40yrs and apart from ets stall trap still the best way to trap pigeons, and pigeons are still in a routine so don't post up open doors when as you say how you do your managment is up to you not joe bloggs down the club because joe bloggs down the club will come up and bite your *expletive removed*

aye ready Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 ok fair enough will have to see and by the way its a public forum so if i wont to post about the way i be using this up and coming season i will clive asked for information and ive gave him my views you got more views than me as you have more years of nolidge on pigeons as didnt start up to july last year but what i no ay if a beginner cant tell how they do it god nose how this sport will move on. but the difference is klaus you posted up the way to trap y/b's is through an open door then you tell us thats the way your doing it for 2010 when you started in july so you have never experienced open door trapping so you are first timer at this method telling a new starter how to trap young birds,i'm not knocking you klaus if i can call you that but calm doon (dizzy)
