I have in past but am going to try something different this year, I was a little late pairing and by now my youngsters are usually weaned and my cocks exercising however I only just rung the ybs, right this is what im gonna do when my young are 14 days old I am gonna remove the hens along the corridor into the empty yb loft, I will leave the 2 young with the cocks to feed and exercise the cocks 2 times a day whilst they are out (I would have fed the hens previous) I will let hens along the corridor into the widow section to feed the youngsters.....this way the ybs will be fed well and also it will not put to much pressure on cocks....they will also bond better to the loft.........thats the plan anyway, I just hope it works :) :) :)

leave them 10 days steve and move all the young with the hens. Put deep litter and straw on the section floor and all the hens will feed all the youngsters, leaving the cocks to recover and excercise.

cheers lads,,,i ask this because im racing cocks and hens to different lofts,,,double widowhood,,,i just thought 1 young bird each cock and hen would take alot of stress of each other,,uselly on wodowhood i just take the hens away leaving both young birds with the cock,,,the hens stress out,,they might not this way plus the parents have only got 1 young bird each to feed,,,,just a thought thats all,,,,thanks mark...

I do this myself. I find the babies taken away with the hens thrive, in fact they're more forward than those left with the cocks. The added bonus doing it this way is the cocks exercise much better.

I do this every year mate.

The younsgters are 21 days, and both youngsters are removed leaving the cock to relax for a bit on his own.

Try different methods, its the only way you will find out what works.

Good luck
