blittlefred Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 hi all ,just read the sticky abouy flagyl, i have some tablets ,but want to flock treat before breeding by grinding down some tablets and adding to the drinking water, do you think this is a viable thing to try ?
jimmy white Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 never tried that,,,but you can get liquid flagyl [anyone comming home from spain will get this over the counter in any chemist , very cheap] " its flagyl suspension " remember , this is antibiotic
Tony C Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 I've read about it somewhere, think it might have been on the pipa website. I believe you also have to mix a bit of vinegar in to help it dissolve. Personally I wouldn’t trust giving it to them this way.
ribble Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 1500mg to 4lt water for 5-7 day's. They are hard to dissolve, try it in a little warm water and add to drinker. The vet Gorden Chalmers advices to mix a bit of cider vin with the warm water to help dissolve. If you have a mortar and pestle it will grind the tablets into powder no problem. I'd trust it 100%.
Guest Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 if u have tabs then use them as tabs...thats why they are in tab form, if u want to flock treat get some emtryl...pm me ill tell u where to get it ...paul

The post was regarding flagyl not emtryl! I would alternate treatments metronidazole, ronidazole & emtryl. My number one choice would be Metronidazole always before any other!

My number one choice would be Metronidazole always before any other! i can see for myself wot the post was reguarding!!...(flagyl) but i was giving my advice because he wanted to flock treat, which i thought it would be much easier to have emtryl as it comes in powder form....summut he was trying to achieve by breaking tabs up and crushing them. i have 3 types of tabs and some from the vet which i have to break into quarters. i found emtryl to be an easier option if flock treating...alhough i do catch up all birds at times and quarter tab them....paul

IF THE POST WAS ABOUT FLAGYL AND NOT EMTRYL WHY ARE YOU QUOTING ABOUT RONIDAZOLE AND EMTRYL ?
ribble Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 No problem, Paul. Tammy, like i said i alternate the products so it would be harder for resistance to build up.That is the reason why i quoted them.
The White Rapido Man Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 Flagyl is a perscribed drug..........and not readily available............... I found this out when I tried to obtain some as I though it would be cheaper than Spartix.
