ste63home Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 after pigeons finnish mateing how long dose it take for the hens to ley eggs ?? and after they ley how long do they normal take to hatch ? allso what is it they use to make nest...what can i put down for them
rasbull Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 roughly it takes about 10 days for a pair to lay, 17 days after the second egg was laid to hatch. I used throw away nests (dandy) nests with some straw in for nesting material. Saves messing about cleaning, just throw away when need changing.
ste63home Posted July 3, 2009 Author Report Posted July 3, 2009 do i seperate they young at 21 days????

Agree, this last season will definately be the last time I ever use any bowl, dandy or Pott or Plastic etc. Have dozens, but did half and half this year with just two bricks forming the square in the corner, and Bowls in the others. Those on bricks were far happier. Real content to watch over mate - above of course - on the house brick. Yes mostlt had half house bricks any way as a place to perch. So much easier to clean etc.
ste63home Posted July 3, 2009 Author Report Posted July 3, 2009 so am i right by saying i take the young from there parents at 21 days old???
rasbull Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 I usually wean my young birds when the underneath of the wing is completely covered with feathers and no skin can be seen.
ste63home Posted July 3, 2009 Author Report Posted July 3, 2009 ah ok what do i feed the young after there born?
Guest HighSpeedLofts Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 ah ok what do i feed the young after there born? after they have hatched you mean the parents will take care of them just use a good breeding mixture
DAVIDL Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 hi ste63home, would agree with rasbull they usually lay about 10 days from pairing....i count the days from when the first egg is laid and it is 19 days to hatching (as rasbull says, 17 from second is right too) and i seperate at about 28 days old although some seperate a few days earlier....but the general rule is when they are fully covered under the wings...
