It doesn't treat thrush - which is a yeast infection - therefore it does not treat yeast infections FULL STOP

WOT DOES IT TREAT ?

Systemic metronidazole is indicated for the treatment of:

[edit] Bacterial

Bacterial vaginosis, commonly associated with overgrowth of Gardnerella species and coinfective anerobes (Mobiluncus, Bacteroides), in symptomatic patients

Pelvic inflammatory disease in conjunction with other antibiotics such as ofloxacin, levofloxacin, or ceftriaxone

Anaerobic bacterial infections such as Bacteroides fragilis, spp, Fusobacterium spp, Clostridium spp, Peptostreptococcus spp, Prevotella spp, or any other anaerobes in intra-abdominal abscess, peritonitis, empyema, pneumonia, aspiration pneumonia, lung abscess, diabetic foot ulcer, meningitis and brain abscess, bone and joint infections, septicemia, endometritis, tubo-ovarian abscess, or endocarditis

Pseudomembranous colitis due to Clostridium difficile

Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy, as part of a multi-drug regimen in peptic ulcer disease

[edit] Protozoal

Vaginitis due to Trichomonas vaginalis infection[2] in both symptomatic patients as well as their asymptomatic sexual contacts - always consult the GP and contact all previous partners

Protozoal infections due to Entamoeba histolytica (Amoebic dysentery or Hepatic abscesses), and Giardia lamblia (Giardiasis) should be treated alone or in conjunction with iodoquinol or diloxanide furoate

With amphotericin B and certain other drugs, it is used as an adjunct in the attempted treatment of primary amoebic meningoencephalitis caused by Naegleria fowleri infection to the bowl

[edit] Nonspecific

Prophylaxis for those undergoing potentially contaminated colorectal surgery and may be combined with neomycin

Acute gingivitis and other dental infections (TGA approved, non-Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved)

Crohn's disease with colonic or perianal involvement (non-FDA approved)- believed to be more effective in combination with ciprofloxacin

Topical metronidazole is indicated for the treatment of rosacea, and in the treatment of malodorous fungating wounds.[3]

You did ask lol !

Well Dr bigda:

What is a fungating wound?

A fungating (malignant) wound is when cancer that is growing under the skin breaks through the skin to create a wound. As the cancer grows, it blocks and damages tiny blood vessels, which can starve the area of oxygen. This causes the skin and underlying tissue to die (necrosis). There may also be infection. The wounds will often look like a fungus or cauliflower. Other areas of the wound may become ulcerated.

Fungating wounds are rare, and most people who have cancer will never develop a fungating wound. They can develop in the area where the cancer started (the primary), or when the cancer has spread to another part of the body (the secondary or metastasis). If a fungating wound does develop, it is most likely to happen with breast cancer, head and neck cancer and melanoma.

I think we have all had a brilliant demonstration of the level of knowledge available on this forum, yet again. A simple question was asked and we have the fullest anwers possible. Fantastic.

Whats wrong with the provision of mother nature which provides us with good olde " Cider Vinegar " 10mls to 2 litres of water for 2 days per week keeps the YEASTS at bay cannot survive in an acidic enviroment NCD ( No Can Do ) therefore no Yeasts no food for the bacterial / infections to feed from so the invasive bacteria dies and our pigeons immune system remains strong effective and intact without having to resort to using antibiotics. food for thought???

Yeast is a plant, not all of them are pathogens - candida is the commonly known one, causing thrush in humans.

The main relationship yeast have with bacteria is that bacteria release natural substances which keep yeast numbers in check. The most common reason for yeast infection is the use of an antibiotic which removes these bacteria and allows yeast to flourish out of control.

Yeast is a normal part of 'good' gut microflora. Saccharomyces is one and is used in some probiotics.

As well as cider vinegar, garlic was also found to be effective against pathogenic yeast. One paper states it was more effective than nystatin on candida albicans.

But I think maintaining a healthy gut microflora would do the complete job.
