Guest Owen Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 It has it's uses, of that there is no doubt. It is a very powerful antibiotic and illegal in some Countries. In this Country it is meant to be available with prescription only. I have no doubt that this drug is responsible for many of the problems we have in the racing pigeon stock in this Country. Fanciers have used it and ruined the immune systems of the birds. The consequence is that when we have really serious problems that require a very strong drug, the drug does not work as it should. In my opinion, the only justification to use this drug is when you have a confirmed case of Paratyphoid. And only then, if you are prepared to use a fresh supply at the correct doseage and for the correct length of time. It is worth you knowing that this drug starts to deteriate from the time you break the seal and let air into it. It takes about two weeks for it to be similar to water.
Guest duncan mckay Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 its a powder mate hows it going to deteriate owen mate

Guest duncan mckay Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 salmocila is a liuqid mate its on ebay to bought that to does cocci respotery
Guest Owen Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Baytril is a liquid and it will definately deteriorate. This stuff that is being sold on the e-bay is basically the same but I have no idea how it works. You can get Baytril in tablet form for cats and dogs and I know that the shelf life is very short. Large animals are usually injected into the muscle with the injectable version of it. The advice with that is to throw it away after you have used it. Baytril is a wonderful drug but I think it is important that we are careful how we use it. I will not use it when the racing is close because I think it knocks the birds off form. After you have used Baytril you need to check the birds for yeast infection. They will often have yeast infection following this treatment. And that is another can of worms.
Guest peter4pm Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Yes i agree owen its a powerfull product ...as i say just wanted to know if anyone has used the above to treat para (salmon) and was the results good or bad ??

Mealy Cock Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 As with ALL drugs they have an expiry date and a date once opened to use by. As said on this forum, use antibiotics with care! Correct dosage and length of time given, must be maintained. Do not treat bird just for the sake of it, or you're heading down a one way path.
Guest IB Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 In UK most antibiotics require to be prescribed by a vet. The disease needs to be correctly identified and tests carried out to determine the most effective medication to treat it. Couple of clicks on ebay doesn't do any of that. Wonder if you do the same thing for yourself, instead of going to your doctor?

Wonder if you do the same thing for yourself, instead of going to your doctor? I have visited the seller's shop and found it very interesting reading. The operation seems to be based in Spain and there are many magic potions available some are a combination of drugs which are probably illegal in this country. One is a combination of Baytril and Amoxycillin. Postage is probably less than you would pay mainland GB.
Guest joshdonlan Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Ive just watched one of the UK Masters DVDs and theres a flyer on there who treats his birds every year with Baytril as a precaution :-/
