Guest Owen Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 I have dealt with three Vets that have proven to be really good.David Parsons, Alfred Way, Wincanton. He is not only a good Vet but he also races pigeons. The other two have been remote from me but were very helpful. Colin Walker, who helped me with dietary information and also dehydration in pigeons. Then Henk De Weerd who was a fund of information regarding Paramixovirus and it's control. I have also found the people at De Weerd centre Colchester very helpful. It is my opinion that Vets are of limited use to racing pigeon fanciers because we want to find ways of keeping our birds healthy and fit while Vets rely on people having sick animals and being prepared to pay to have them treated. Most recovered pigeons will not reach super form and because of that they will be no use to us.
john cumming Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 Avian vets are as rare as hens teeth here in N.Ireland, most fanciers have to send dropping samples off to England to have their birds tested and diagnosed aye the same up in N/E Scotland, to the lads in the north east does anyone know if there are there any avian vets in our neck of the woods, from my experience of vets up here that ive used have very basic expertise in birds, john
