Guest madpup Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 i agree black wf in my opinion a natural imune systom is far better than any product you can buy yea but when your birds are in a basket with sick birds, you need more than a good imune system.. plenty of drugs ;D ;D

OLDYELLOW Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 has any one known appertex to work ? most over the counter medications are half strength , thats why i go to a vet because over the counter stuff doesnt work unless you double the dose ( im not recommending anyone doubles the dose but to get good medication from a avian vet whos tested your birds in the first place ) costing far more than seing a vet , over the counter may be cheaper but not effective and can cost you more in the long run
pigeonpete Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 yea but when your birds are in a basket with sick birds, you need more than a good imune system.. plenty of drugs ;D ;D Well i have been racing for 4 years, this is my 5th, and i have never treated during racing before, and my results are not the best. Take last year, i won first 2 old bird races, then was nigh on last every week. So after taking dome good advice off people on here, im trying a different approach this year, As some of the birds i see on the fed transporter, well!!!. I said to 1 guy once end of last season, whats that bird there your sending, all ruffled up, dirty wattle, he said it only came back wed, so its got to earn its corn!!! 99% sure he never seen that bird again, deffo was just not flown out, slimy green droppings, I loved to keep mine on just cider vinegar, yoghurt, etc. but i dont think its possible when there are so many sick birds on the lorry, just so they can try and win averages etc.

wilkins Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 if you were starting a new medicine cabinet for your birds. what would you have in it? same with cleaning products? bleach
storm rollers Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 i suppose if your basketing with other birds some of it would make sense but if you look at the bigger picture the birds nower days are over treated. didnt happen 20yrs ago
dwh Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 LETS BE FAIR MY POST ON MY MEDS CABINET WAS A WIND UP WHO IN THERE RIGHT MIND WOULD SHOVE ALL THT CRAP DOWN A PIGEONS NECK VACCINATION GOOD MANAGEMENT,AND REG . TESTING IS THE ONLY WAY YOU DON'T TAKE PARACETAMOL IF YOU AIN'T HURTING DO YOU! YOU GO TO THE DOCS IF YOU THINK SOMETHING WRONG SO D O THE SAME WITH YER BIRDS A VET OR A WELL INFORMED FANCIER WHO KNOW WHAT HE'S LOOKING UNDER A MICROSCOPE IS THE ONLY WAY. DRUG MISUSE HAS A FUNNY WAY OF COMING BACK & BITING YOU UP THE *expletive removed* JMO
Guest mick bowler Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 Wow, no wonder some moan how expensive racing pigeons is. Best thing you can have in your med cabinet is a bin bag and pair of scissors.
marmite Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 lol all i have is garlic cloves /cider vinegar/ bin bag/ and a scraper for occasional use (when they cant get on perks ) aqeouse iodine bout it . im on marking committee so anything that comes through that even looks slightly ropey dont get marked but sent back home
bullcock Posted March 26, 2010 Report Posted March 26, 2010 the only pill a sick bird needs is a "neck pull"( and maybe a wee twist) ;D ;D
