PigeonClarke Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Does anyone find that salt etc in baths kills lice.
phillips Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 the finest thing ive ever used is common house fly spray 1 squirt on the rump at the start of the season not a lice all yr its only a £1 a tin
Guest Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Used to use bath salts in pigeons' bath for that purpose, but it didn't seem to work too well for my birds as they still had lice. Also, they seemed to prefer bathing in dirty pools of water in garden. :-/ Only thing that goes into their bathwater nowadays is garlic water, and they seem to prefer that to dirty pools in the garden.
phillips Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 its good stuff garlic is for the pigeons its always in my drinkers
jimmy white Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Does anyone find that salt etc in baths kills lice. no, i find it just makes them thirsty ;D ;D ;D,,,[only kidding ] ,no but seriously Ive never found salt good for this purpose , i dont think the odd lice is too much bother ,, its red mite that's the killer, , there are many that say garlic is effective for lice , but spraying your loft with duramitex does the trick
Roland Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 the finest thing ive ever used is common house fly spray 1 squirt on the rump at the start of the season not a lice all yr its only a £1 a tin Yep and a diluted spray of dettol. Jimmy says ...'.... i dont think the odd lice is too much bother, its red mite that's the killer, there are many that say garlic is effective for lice , but spraying your loft with duramitex does the trick ...' Couldn't agree more. Also out side of club members in the club moaning, lice are great for cleaning feathers and keeping them in tip top shap....
majorpet Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Does anyone find that salt etc in baths kills lice. if you soak a lettuce from the garden in salt water you see all the bugs in the bottom of the water when you take it out-so must do something!!!!!!!!!!!! cant do no harm! majorpet
Back garden fancier Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Put a tablespoon of TCP in the bath, keeps them clear of tics for ages and clears out nose and throat at same time.
chickadee Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Does all these things in the bathwater not affect their eyes? that's what i worry about.
jimmy white Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 no chickadee, the pigeon has a special" third eyelid" the" nicky membrane " this acts as a dust keeperooterer ;D and acts like a windscreen wiper against flying in rain etc, thats why any respiratory prob effects this membrane and puts the bird at a strict disadvantage , but if the waters not right for the bird in the bath, it wont go in ,, thats why they taste it first
THE FIFER Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 garlic is best i have used it for ages, also the house fly spray i use it in the loft in all the cracks etc gets flies and moths on the run.

Guest Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 best without a doubt is a product to spray ur cot with!!...mix it with water ill find out the name of it and let u all know as soon as poss. dip ur birds in it and i swear ur have no lice for the rest of the year..m8 did it last year ..i seen the results and tried it...u wont believe it how well it works....paul
klinkley Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Lice is a definite no-no when showing pigeons. I use Van Verminex every two to three months or when needed, just add a drop to the perch where the bird sits, and the nasties die and drop off the bird. It is also kills flies too. It's really good stuff.
jimmy white Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 house spray i use myself at times ,,, but this kills all creepy crawlies,,,, but it also kills the spiders, which are in fact good in your loft ,,,spiders will eat flies , moths red mite etc etc so a few spiders webs in the corners will do no harm ;D ;D ;D thats if your not scared of spiders ;D ;D ;D
Roland Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 Many fanciers feed cheese in grated form or cut little cubes but I'd be worried about the salt content. Still some perform very well such as Gerard KOOPMAN. But it's not this or that fad that is really important. Tom mentioned a few weeks ago that one needs health and a balance between the feed one supplies and the work the birds are doing. I think that this was very well put. So salt is a no go for me. Yes and of course lice are a no go at shows. Don't know about Belguim shows though. Perhaps Steve could enlighten us there.

Vanhee Ungerzeifer Frei 11500 it was back in july when i posted this on a thread about moths in the loft in the fancy pigeons section TAMMY_1 Wednesday, July 11, 2007, 7:18am Quote Quote Report to Webmaster Report to Webmaster aye you Veteran of the Loft!! Posts: 7,103 Gender: Male Location: in your mind Try a product by Van Hee called Ungerzeifer Frei this should kill anything in ur loft, and that includes ur birds if u don't follow the instructions carefully, but it is an excellent pigeon product, I use this every year and very seldom ever see anything unwanted in the lofts, can be bought very easily from most pigeon supppliers
