Guest TAMMY_1 Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 anybody put some kind of salt in loft for their pigeons, reason is I was looking at a price list I was sent for pigeon products and included on the sheet was a bit about organic salt priced at £1 for 500gm ? and what benefits do you think this gives the pigeons if any? and do they need this added for them ?
crazy pigeon boy Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 i use natural sea salt it works like a kind of electrolite and has lots of minerals in it for the birds

jimmy white Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 pigeons do like salt but as nature goes, they know when they want it, or rather when they need , its really another mineral ,, see them pick at it when their feeding youngsters tie a cabbage up and wash and sprinkle with salt [when they get over the fright of a cabbage hanging in the loft ;D ;D ;D they will eat it with relish [not yorkshire relish ;D]] cabbage is full of iron [but wont stick to a magnet ;D unless you nail it to the wall of the loft ;D ;D ;D]
THE FIFER Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 back in the 60's we used to go out to the farm fiels where cattle were and the use to have a large lump of salt rock hanging on the fence for the cattle to lick, we used to take it and put it in the loft for the birds to pick at,
THE FIFER Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 another one to give to the birds is seaweed, which no doubt has salt in it, i get a bag of garlic and seaweed powder at blackpool, i put a little in their food they love it, so getting both seaweed and garlic,
frank-123 Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 my father used to do the same jimmy except he used a lettuce covered in salt rather than a cabbage i never had lettuce and tomato when i was younger only the tomatoes as the birds had the lettuce
