I have just looked through all my pigeon health books i have, and i have most of them that are available by all the top pigeon vets in the world and there is no mention of whipworm in pigeons, which tells me that it is host specific to cats and dogs but not birds.

I had a rake around on the web and found the same, We do have 2 dogs though and at least I can keep an eye out with the microscope.

Thanks everyone for their input, much appreciated.

As Sue suggested, if this was an adult worm, it would be visible to the naked eye. Also you can see right through it and there's nothing inside it, no suggestion of a gut, or other organs. The description of whip worm Bigda posted also rules it out - The whipworm of the dog (Trichuris vulpis) is substantially smaller than the other worms (a mere 30-50 mm in length, about two inches maximum) - so you'd also be able to see that without a microscope.
