Tony C Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 You can get copper sulphate through Meditech http://www.meditechuk.co.uk/ Two teaspoons to 1 gallon of water
Guest shadow Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 I have used Quellada malathion liquid from the chemist its used to treat head lice crab lice and scabies mite on humans just dip a cotton bud in the liquid and paint on the bald patches and is very effective
jimmy white Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 have used old fashioned carbolic soap , worked a treat in the past
jimmy white Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 might be of interest to you kev post below a[ few places] about" bird loosing feathers"
schouwman71 Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 KEV HAVE YOU CHANGED UR WATER DRINKERS,AS SOMTIMES THEY RUB THERE CHESTS ON THEM WHEN THEY DRINK AND IT RUBS THERE FEATHERS,HENCE THE BALD PATCHES,
peterpau Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 If the feathers on the chest, are broken from rubbing on the drinker, or even chewed off, by some sort of mite. You may need to wait for the birds to molt out. All the ideas above would work. However time may be the thing.
kev01293 Posted July 5, 2006 Author Report Posted July 5, 2006 thanks for replies re the drinkers but havent changed them recently,i tried derbac head lice shampoo yesterday on my pigeons patches as it was recommended to me and was easily available in my local chemist,it contains malathion which im told is very effective against the depluming mites, will keep you all posted on the pigeons progress and thanks for your help, kev01293
Brian Wall Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 Try FRONTLINE it will work but you probably won't see till the bird moults the feathers. If the quill is still in the bird, which I suspect they are the pigeon does not know they have been chewed off and there fore will not throw the quill until it starts the moult. Frontline is a cat and dog flea product only available from a Vet, it works on the depumming mite 95% of the time were many similar products fail on this particular mite.
