I have a hen pigeon that has something wrong and was wondering if anybody has any ideas, over the last few days she has had a lot of swelling underneath her back end at her vent which is about 2 to 3 inches long and a couple of inches wide, it is not a hard lump or anything but just a huge amount of soft fleshy swelling, also she seems to have her beak open slightly all the time  but she is eating well, also the hen has never laid this year despite being paired up since January, they do not fly out , so any help would be appreciated.

try steaming her vent she could be egg bound or have a protein

lump feed her a lot of cod liver oil on her grub cut out  beans peas  and the likes for one week then monitor  her  if no change it could also be a cancer growth  that will kill her in a matter of weeks there is also a chance her ovaries  and the likes are coming away  try steem for a few days and oil

Had a 2 yo hen with exactly same symptoms. Went through all usual routines, vents open, broody, covering nest bowl, but never laid (got her as a yearling).

Then rump end started to grow larger, always a sensation of pressure there, not hard like a tumour but soft like fluid. Toward end, beak open, laboured breathing, as if something was pressing in on her internal organs. Had to put her down because she was obviously starting to suffer.

Cause? Never found out for sure: but suspected a condition in poultry world called egg drop syndrome, where egg & yolk (shell-less) miss oviduct and drop into body cavity instead. Eventually causes a bacterial infection. Saw a video on the web, and Australian vet, (Ron somebody) with a chicken with this condition, he stuck a hypo needle in it, attached a tube to hypo, and out spurted this yellow stuff from the bird's body cavity - yolk etc from countless 'dropped' eggs, gallons of it.
