Guest bigda Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 get them tested as it could be a few things
Guest Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Flapper, you may already use it but put 5 mls/litre of cider vinegar for first day then half that for 4 days and feed themon just tic beans . remove any grits or minerals.
Roland Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Tic beans are flipping scare as of now, 25% protien is their fortitude... A few peanuts has a higher protein. Feed high protein for three days... Take them out of loft and feed heavy again. SA little lemon or grapefruit will make them eat well. Put them back in loft after you have whitened the floor. Any wet droppings get shot of... Or a Vet. Phara / Salmonella is one of the great troubles of our birds. Doesn't show in droppings of course. bacteria may... Ask Johnny 11

Ask Johnny 11 Roland agree about the peanuts but a lot you buy in petshops been stood in the light too long and you could end up creating another problem. Would ony feed them if it was part of a bag i had already fed without a problem.
Roland Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Yep agree ... needs to really be a supermarket job, or health shop. But with the high protein wouldn't need many... Just enough to see if there are bigger issues that need addresing ... which I'd there is often.
just ask me Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 simple bird needs to be tested if fanicer hasent seen it before there is lots of possibilities here most likely a bacterial infection in the gut samonella might even be respiratory and a whole load of other things i cant spell this pigeon will more than likelly need a antibiotic sometimes the speed in which u give them the can make a big difference peanuts can be risky as the mould on them can cause lots of problems have even seen supermarkets ones that i wouldn't give to pigeons so be careful there
Guest IB Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Watery droppings by itself in one pigeon that is otherwise healthy isn't anything to worry about, and could be down to any of the reasons stated. But Rule No1 must always be that the bird is popped in a spare box as soon as anything out of the ordinary catches your attention. I'd stick with the cider vinegar in the jar of water, but prefer something 'light' like a mixture of seeds, barley, brown rice, bulgar wheat for a day or two till the droppings form up, then gradually add heavier grains like beans, peas and maize. Give the bird 3 days tops - if droppings return to normal, fine, it can rejoin the others, if not need to make up your mind if its worth keeping / seeing a vet.
