Speckled Jim Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 Hello, A friend of mine recently moved his loft to a new house, before the move his birds performed well and looked great, all birds homed well to new loft location. However since the move the birds have developed a respiratory problem, and once healthy birds now look a little of colour, if he treats them with anti botics the birds come right for 4-5 days then get sick again. The new property has a large swimming pool abbout 10metre from the loft, was wondering if this maybe the cause of the problems, birds have spots in there throats. thanks
ChrisMaidment08 Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 if they are drinking water in pool its more than likely burning there throats and guts they wont look well then mate
REDCHEQHEN Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 I could never go to the public swimming baths because of the chlorine in the water which made me cough and my eyes water PS is anyone having trouble with this site at the moment it seems very slow - and posts aren't posting when you press 'post reply'
pigeonscout Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 are vents at bottom of loft facing pool?
OLDYELLOW Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 what colour spots are in throat ? yellow cheesey spots indicate canker , but the gases from the pool could be poisoning the birds , perhaps wind change is reason for getting better then ill again , i would get a blood sample to see if been poisioned , a tempary measure would be to use Black minerals ( charpos ) and clay mineral blocks to help the systems of the birds detoxify perhaps this loft will need moving into a better position.
Guest Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 get your mate to drain the pool and see if it makes a differance if thats the problem he can look into getting something bird frendly for the pool
fletch Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 i would think get advice from a vet if it is the pool could the loft be removed?

gangster Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 my humble opinion is deffo something from the pool thats bringing on this......
Guest Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 Hi Jim it might be worth speaking to Nick Brent of St Claire lofts Australia regards the pool as when i visited him a few years ago his lofts are built right near a large swimming pool the loft run 2 sides of this pool and his birds were a picture of health
just ask me Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 the spots can be caused by the use of antibiotots have seen it before id put my money on it not being respiraty but some sort of virus that was caused by the move that was there all the time but never shown

Speckled Jim Posted December 15, 2008 Author Report Posted December 15, 2008 Thanks for the replys and advice. He also recently got in 2 new young birds from another loft, these birds approx the same age as his young ones are well advanced in the moult, whereas all his young birds are very slow, could this be connected with problem.
