is it on a joint? it could have hit the perch hard trying to get up, if you can get a picture up it would help, as could be a number of things,

Leave it alone as it will dry up and drop off without any interference

I had this once it looked purple in colour as if it was full of blood, I tied a piece of fishing line tight around it and it fell off itself and the bird never showed any sign of discomfort.

Calcium build up if hard at knuckle, soft? = possible cyst, treatment = nothing it will go hard or drain istelf.

i have never seen a protein boil on a pigeon so young, if the lump is on the joint of the wing and has fluid in i would take no chances and dispose of the bird sooner the better, jmo

the only bird ive had a protein lump on was a youngbird a good few years a go.

the black colour is a distinct sign its a protein lump.

paratyphoid lump is entirely different. ;)
