Guest anthony Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 I have noticed a hen that looks not so good and as usual I check for canker,on doing this when I tried to take a swab with the cottonbud it came out green in colour from the crop!!! This is the first time that this happened, any suggestions
timbarra Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 if she appears ok in herself in general, just keep her on plain water and light feed for a week, has she been on eggs and they not hatched, does she have access to pond water ? or gutters where dirty water can congregate. there is a cause just think what she has done over the last week.
Guest anthony Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Unfurtunatly this evening she looks very bad facing the corner, she has been seperated all the season and no access to dirty water,as far as i know!!I put her in a place on her own
Tony C Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Have you opened her mouth and smelt her breath? If there’s a rancid smell to it she may have sour crop.
REDCHEQHEN Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 I took this off pigeonchat site ,,,ASPERGILLOSIS,,,green deposits on tongue , check feed for mould , loft vetilation , 1 or 2 drop's of iodine on tongue , also 4 or 5 drop's in the drinker , untill it clear's up , if not caught early enough can become a lung infection , then your into doxy & tylan , if your on deep litter get it out , spray the loft with vikron's or a strong mix of iodine , also check nesting material tobac stalk's / straw , this is a fungas / mould it will go through the loft like wild fire . I don't know if it would be the same as this refers to a green tongue in a young bird
Guest anthony Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Thanks for your interest, hope she will still be alive tomorrow if so I try the iodine

Guest anthony Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Very difficult here seems like all vets are more interested in dogs, cats and horses
ch pied Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Very difficult here seems like all vets are more interested in dogs, cats and horsesmate , is there any way vermin can enter the loft , ie , mice & rats , iam just flying a kite on this
Guest IB Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Do you still have a sample of fluid from the dead bird, or have you preserved the cotton bud, or can you take a sample from the latest victim - and send it off for analysis?
Guest IB Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 Another member on another thread recommended Lizzie Rigby. She advertises a full laboratory postal test kit @ £34.75. I'd email her on : allanimalsvetclinic@hotmail.co.uk, tell her what you have and ask for a price for a lab analysis of any specimens you have. Or maybe consider sending off the second pigeon for euthenising & autopsy?
