harky Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 thanks mate i know some of the old fanciers used to use it on there birds after a race to give them a clean out but was,nt sure of the amount to give not meaning to be cheeky tyson but try doing an hours workout and then come home and drink a glass of epsom salts youself and see if it does you any good .then you can give your pigeons some after you have found out the results .
pigeonscout Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 The last thing a bird needs after a race is wet droppings
ch pied Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 would think , epsom or glaubber salts will only add to de- hydration . ?
DUBLINFLYER Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 dr colin walker advises against these type of salts, wouldnt be my cuppa tea, but i am of the understanding that if ye give these salts it flushes the bird out(anything they may have picked up in the basket) then they need to be re-hyrated as soon as possible, not 100% sure this is just my understanding
Guest IB Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Have just posted something similar on 'entrebiotic' thread: bird is already overloaded with salt after a race, and needs water, not more salt.
DJ Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 have read somewhere myself that birds dont need more salts after a race as their salt levels are already too high and only need clean water? there seems to be a lot of disagreement on this matter :-/ what do u all think? debbie

As far as I am aware Magnesium can be beneficial in muscle formation.
jimmy white Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 hi everone does anyone still use this product on there pigeons if so what is the dosage thanks i wouldnt use ebsom salts for pigeons, especialy after a race , i would much rather use something to firm up their droppings than make it worse
