DJ Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 can anyone tell me if lice/mites can be treated via the drinking water ? ive tried spraying them with the usual spray treatments and when after a week or so i noticed that some were still on the pigeons i tried a one drop treatment on the back of their necks but this hasnt worked either ? surely there has to be an easier way to treat for lice/mites then treating them all individually? as im a novice any advice would be appreciated debbie
Guest 67ghirl Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 Just a thought Debbie but are you also treating the Loft as they can live/breed off the Birds?
bewted Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 keep garlic in drinking and bath water and in time they are all gone,,,,done it myself,,,good stuff it works, but,.loft stinks a bit of garlic !!!
THE FIFER Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 put some good strong garlic water in the bath they wont have lice for long, you can even spray garlic water around the nest bowls or better still crush up a garlic bulb and put it under the nest bowls,

Guest IB Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 I use garlic in drinking water and the bath water at least once a week; fresh for drinking, a week old for bathing (tip remains of Monday's drinkers in a bucket and keep it till following Sunday); I also have harka-mectin as back-up, two-drops used on individual birds as a last resort kind of thing; what you are maybe experiencing Debbie, is adults dying off, but re-infestation with juveniles - a fresh hatch? Found that once with harka-mectin drops isn't usually enough to clear the bird completely.
ALF Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 I dip all my birds in Chlocarb before the start of the season and i dont see anymore lice on them all season after that quick and quite easy to do aswell
