Guest IB Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 I have met a top avian vet, several times, in consultations on one of my birds with a wing problem. I can assure you I got my money's worth and asked him a lot more than one question, the answers to some of them were: Yoghurt is as good a probiotic as any.... Sand is a poor floor dressing. You need to rake over (aeriate it) at least once per day. Salmonella is a rod-shaped bacteria. It doesn't infect just one pigeon in the loft, and one joint; it infects all the pigeons and invades their whole body. Broken bones even in the wing are no bother at all, the break can be pinned if need be, and when healed it is stronger than the bone on either side, and the bird can still race; joints on the other hand are a nightmare, all they want to do is seize up, racing days are definitely over.
OLDYELLOW Posted September 23, 2008 Report Posted September 23, 2008 i suppose best way to get to know your vet is to use them regulary , see what new treatments there are as same treatment is bad as they get used to it , many times i have treated took bird in said i have treated for canker ectra and stuffs not worked so since then im more for prevention rather than the cure , after moultings over get droppings tested get a micro bacteria swab and wait then treat before pairing up if nessasary then test again about 2 months before racing then dropings every month before i give canker treatment for a few days
just ask me Posted September 23, 2008 Author Report Posted September 23, 2008 we cant know it all there must be at least 1 question
