Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 if there is rain forcast for race day try get them in a bath basketing day so they replace oils etc so they can fly through it better this is what i was adviced also night when race birds return helps them relax and recovery better.Have heard radox bath salts are great to use but havent tried this myself
blackdog Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 with all this hot weather, try bathing the young on a friday morning before going to the race, you will be surprised how well they will come, but if rain forcast i would bath them no later than wednesday, just think when you bath or shower yourself how good you feel after, my birds always seem to exercise better if been in bath in the mornings then let out in afternoon.
edwards Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 i think ad is telling porkys lads why would he bath before the race day when it would interfere with the oils on the 9th primary if he had a certain cock ready and he was tense muscle wise he would to relax them the 9th shows an oil mark of around 20ml like a splash mark it shows extreme form when its there great for picking your pool bird its not there all the time but when it shows watch out for it boys in a big race bathing for pleasure is alright once a week but purpose wise vital for relaxing the muscles jeseus hope no one out of my club is picking me up on all this a tips and tricks let slip today boys and remember dont belive everything you read if that was the case we would be all champions .
Guest slugmonkey Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 oil is applied from beak ? not from wing
greenlands Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 oil is applied from beak ? not from wing I beleive the preening gland is on the top/rump of the bird, the beak is used to apply the oils and not from the beak. Lindsay C
edwards Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 read what i wrote it explains nothing about were oils come from (splash mark on the 9th shows abird in form )
just ask me Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 i think ad is telling porkys lads why would he bath before the race day when it would interfere with the oils on the 9th primary if he had a certain cock ready and he was tense muscle wise he would to relax them the 9th shows an oil mark of around 20ml like a splash mark it shows extreme form when its there great for picking your pool bird its not there all the time but when it shows watch out for it boys in a big race bathing for pleasure is alright once a week but purpose wise vital for relaxing the muscles jeseus hope no one out of my club is picking me up on all this a tips and tricks let slip today boys and remember dont belive everything you read if that was the case we would be all champions . so in other wards the bath takes away this oil mark and stops the bird from coming into form and stops the bird if taking a bath lets say thursday or Friday from racing well on the sunday think this is what u are saying
edwards Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 no the comment stated ad baths on basketing day mate you actually wouldn belive how long a pigeon takes to dry him self out after a bath to us they look fine after an hour but they take several hours to proparly dry baths do not stop birds coming into form stupid even to think that but yes would play a part in one or 2 things to look for we would use the 9th primary with young to many for indiviual microscope testing for picking our pool birds if your dedicated to the sport like us then all our widowhood team is tested 1 by 1 from early friday morning and guess what 9 times out of 10 the pool bird picked would be home first no winning it all the time of course there is other members.
