Tony C Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Write down in your loft book what you treated them with, for how long and when you started exercising them again. If you cop it again next year give them a weeks extra rest before exercising again, sounds like the y/b/s never left them proper. For now starve for 24 hours then light feed for a couple of days (pellets are good if yours eat them) no exercising for a week.
Guest strapper Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 there is two different strains of ybs...1+2. reason for not feeding them for a day or two is to stop their crop from filling up with undigested corn. whilst the bird is infected with ybs its crop becomes infected so cannot pass food. this is called stagnant crop when it affects old birds. this is why only fluids have a chance of passing through the crop...with medication in it. stagnant crop can eventually kill an old bird if not treated. if your birds have caught it twice(this happened to me once)then treat them for longer 2nd time round to erradicate any infection that could be lingering..this is only if the 2nd infection has come around not long after the 1st one. best of luck ..remember to remove all vits and minerals when treating....and keep them in. another thing is...be careful adding youngbirds to the treated ones, this new bird could start things off again.
