REDCHEQHEN Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 We have a hen that returned from the last old bird race with a broken keel - it is broken across the keel - and quite high up - about an inch from the top - and the lower part - under the break is displaced What are the members thoughts about this hen racing again (it has taken 2 months for the swelling to go down - but the skin is still yellow - recovering from the bruising (our thoughts are that she will not race again) she flew all the channel races except Bourges (so up to 450 miles - 4 channel races) and was our first bird back from Andrezel, she is 2 years old - and we were hoping for Bourges next year until this happened she flies around the loft fine
Guest Greig the doo Drysdale Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Neverr race again sorry but might get something from her breeding but take it easy with her just my opionion what i would do
Guest Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 i think if you have others you can send , keep her back . if she is one of only a few , you could take a chance ? but i beleive may lose her, not because of the injury ,but because she put up a sterling perfomance to reach home injured ,you could break her heart . just my opinion Sue , but based on some experience . andy.
pigeonpete Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 I dont think it will hinder her race performances, aslong as she has plenty of time to recover. I know a guy who has a good cock called the keel cock, that broke his keel, and he come from tarbes again this year nearly 700 miles, was 20th section L i think. and he thought he would never race again. :-) hope she recovers o.k
REDCHEQHEN Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 Thank you for your input This hen hit wires as a young bird - and almost decapitated herself so I don't think we'll risk her again
REDCHEQHEN Posted August 25, 2009 Author Report Posted August 25, 2009 This is what she survived as a youngster the last race from Lillers - was 30+ mph West winds across the channel - and I had 4 come back injured and one missing
